Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021, D: Eubank) - news, rumors, etc.

Studio Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos also unveiled that Paramount is working on the next entry in the Paranormal Activity franchise.

Said Gianopulos, “We are partnering with uber horror producer Jason Blum to bring a new installment of Paranormal Activity.” The project is currently in development. As-yet, there is no title, and details are being kept under wraps. The film would be the seventh in the nearly $900M worldwide grossing series.

The last film in the franchise was 2015’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. Par first teamed with Blum on the initial microbudget phenomenon in 2009 which went on to gross over $190M worldwide.

Despite being SUPER redundant, I actually enjoyed the first few PA movies. I only made it about halfway through the ghosts in the ghetto one and never bothered with the last one.

If this doesn’t look absolutely horrible, I’ll probably give it a rent at least.

The biggest news for me here is that this is the SEVENTH one of these. I thought maybe they were on four or five. I saw the first two and gave up.

re: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021, D: Eubank) - news, rumors, etc.

We haven’t gotten a new Paranormal Activity movie since we were taken into The Ghost Dimension back in 2015, but as we learned earlier this year, a brand new installment in the franchise is being developed by Paramount and Blumhouse. And today brings word that Paramount has already set a date for the film. It’ll arrive in theaters on March 19, 2021.

At this time, the seventh installment in the series has no title or details.

Back in 2015, The Ghost Dimension was said to be the final installment of the franchise. Will we get a continuation of the original storyline or a reboot? Only time will tell.

I actually thought that was one of the better ones in the later half of the franchise, just because of how insane it gets. When you get a scene of the main character and a gang-banger rolling up on a coven and shotgunning a bunch of old lady witches, I can't help but enjoy the absurdity.

re: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021, D: Eubank) - news, rumors, etc.

After initially calling 2015’s The Ghost Dimension the “final” Paranormal Activity, Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse have begun work on a seventh incarnation of the franchise that is set for release next spring (March 19, 2021).

No other details have been revealed, however, producer Jason Blum appeared on “The Evolution of Horror” Podcast in which he reveals that Christopher Landon has returned to the franchise to help develop the next installment.

“We are doing a new Paranormal Activity, we have Chris Landon…he’s coming up with Paranormal Activity 7,” Blum explained while also emphasizing that Paranormal Activity 7 is not the title of the movie but that it’s the seventh Paranormal Activity.

I actually thought "The Marked Ones" was the best one especially at the end where the dude ends up in the Kitchen looking at Katie - that was really cool.

The first one and the marked ones are my two favs - all the others I don't care about. Cool to hear news of this as well if it's not just another cash grab.

Filmmaker Will Eubank and Happy Death Day’s Christopher Landon are teaming up for the reinvention of supernatural horror franchise, Paranormal Activity.

Eubank, who last directed the Kristen Stewart thriller Underwater, is attached to direct while Landon, a Paranormal stalwart who wrote four of the previous movies before going on to become a hit horror director in his own right, will pen the script for what is being described by insiders as an "unexpected retooling" of the franchise, being made by Paramount Players.

Will Eubank directed "The Signal" while of course not an amazing movie it was still really, really good - this has a chance to be good.

re: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021, D: Eubank) - news, rumors, etc.

Paramount+ is doubling down on Paranormal Activity.

The streaming service is set to be the exclusive home of the upcoming seventh film, which is being directed by Underwater director William Eubank.

Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer, ViacomCBS Streaming, revealed that alongside that film, the service would be launching a Paranormal Activity documentary on the making of the feature.

Giles, speaking alongside Tom Ryan, President & CEO, ViacomCBS Streaming, at the company’s executive session for its TCA press tour, said, “A new Paranormal Activity from Paramount Players should bring fans an unexpected reimagining of the beloved horror franchise. We’ll also be launching a documentary on the making of the Paranormal Activity feature. Both of which will be coming to the service in time for Halloween.”

The plot for the new film, which is set to feature Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert and Henry Ayres-Brown, are unknown and in classic Paranormal Activity fashion, details of the documentary were also not immediately available.

I don't think I watched any film in the series past the third entry. Did they stick with the Found Footage format?

I'll admit I'm a sucker for Found Footage films, whether or not they are good or awful.

I'm interested in it because this one is directed by the guy who did The Signal and Underwater.

Looks alright.

I grew up around Amish so the premise just made me giggle a little.

not sure I've seen any of these movies. Is this movie something that follows a certain cast or could I watch this one as a stand-alone as something creepy for Halloween?

I would be surprised if there's anything more than the loosest of connections to the other films, if that. There are no returning characters that I see in the trailer. Looks to be a reboot of sorts.

Re: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021, D: Eubank) - news, rumors, etc.

I think I missed the last couple of PA movies but what I (vaguely) remember from the first few is that they were all pretty much their own stand-alone movies with only a loose connection “twist” at the end.

If anything, the final shot might be one that doesn’t make any sense of you haven’t seen the other movies but I really wouldn’t expect that to be the case.

I could be wrong though. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen any of them.
