Best Depiction of a Fictional Sport in a Movie ?
What do you think is the best depiction of a fictional sport in a movie ? Such that you thought "gee i would really love to see that sport in real life"
We have the really bad like Baseketball
If we park all of the 'fight to the death" movies. For me, the best out of that lot is American Samurai and Bloodsport
the problem is when you even slightly analyze the rules of the sports presented, there would be so much easier (but maybe more uninteresting) ways to win
Salute of the Jugger and Rollerball are examples of these.

If sports that are literally impossible are allowed, I think the answer is Quidditch. It's farily well fleshed out, the rules make sense, and we had eight movies with which to explore it.

Really? I saw all movies and have no idea how a quidditch game works except getting that gold flying thing wins all.

The scale of the quidditch field, and dumb-ass spectator stands are all wrong! Boo quidditch!

Motorball was fun to watch in Alita: Battle Angel. I know it’s a take on Rollerball, which was an interesting enough film for its day (never saw the remake, just read/heard to stay away).

You know what we need? A real life Hunger Games/Battle Royale!
And if you want to get really dark and stretch the term “sport”, a good old fashioned “Purge” could be useful in this world....

Yep, if they get rid of that silly “catch the golden snitch and you automatically win” rule then maybe quidditch would be a worthwhile sport.

Yeah, I don't get it either. "Baseketball" is dumb but has some funny parts and I think the best thing in it was the sport itself.
My favorite part is how the playoff system for baseketball's Denslow Cup championship is a bit on the complicated side

I've been wanting to see a real-life Robot Jox since I was a kid. The sport itself seemed light on rules; fight to incapacitation or death.

While catching it ends the match, the snitch is worth 150 points so you only usually win. Plus, in league play how many points you win (or lose) by comes into play. As a counter example, while the Goblet of Fire movie doesn't explain this (as it's not a pivotal plot point) at the Quidditch World Cup, Krum caught the Snitch, but Bulgaria still lost to Ireland because the Irish chasers were so much better than the Bulgarian chasers. They had amassed a lead greater than 150 points, and there was no way the Bulgarians were going to catch up.

I love that scene and if anything Baseketball scewers the sometimes ridiculous obsession we have with professional sports.
