Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
It's gonna be great.

Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
Palme D'or winner.
|
Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
I am not sure that is high praise anymore.

Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
It's never really been a mainstream appeal festival, the movies are usually pretty high quality but they won't appeal to everybody.

I disagree. They've all been pretty great the last 15-20 years or so. With Fahrenheit 9/11 being the only truly awful Palme D'or winner this century. |

Would love this to go VoD soon...

Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
It won’t. |

Parasite has set its U.S. release. NEON, which acquired Parasite soon after it made its world premiere at Cannes, has set the Parasite US release for October 2019, just in time for awards season. NEON announced that Parasite will be released in Los Angeles and New York on October 11, 2019 and will receive a “traditional arthouse platform release.” |
Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
Only film of his I’ve seen part of is Snowpiercer and I turned that off after 30 mins because I didn’t care for it. This new movie seems very intriguing though. |

The trailer looks fantastic. I've been a Bong Joon Ho fan since Memories of Murder. He's yet to make a bad film.

Snowpiercer is one of his worst, and obviously one of his least "Korean" films (although I personally don't find it to be a bad film overall). You owe it to yourself to watch Memories of Murder at the very least.

Thanks. I'm gonna look up to see if MEMORIES is streaming anywhere. I have Netflix, Prime Video & Hulu. Hoping one of the 3 has it.

2010 - Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Apichatpong Weerasethakul) 2011 - The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick) 2012 - Amour (Michael Haneke) 2013 - Blue Is the Warmest Colour (Abdellatif Kechiche and Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux) 2014 - Winter Sleep (Nuri Bilge Ceylan) 2015 - Dheepan (Jacques Audiard) 2016 - I, Daniel Blake (Ken Loach) 2017 - The Square (Ruben Östlund) 2018 - Shoplifters (Hirokazu Kore-eda) 2019 - Parasite (Bong Joon-ho) Aside from Blue Is the Warmest Colour (which I think has held up quite poorly) I would say all these movies are excellent and would each probably be in my top ten of that respective year's releases. |

I saw this awhile back. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

Don't blame you one bit for your reaction to Snowpiercer, though. I haven't faintest idea why it gets as much love from critics as it does. I watched it twice just to make sure 'I got it' and actually disliked it even more during the second viewing. As for Parasite, it's fully deserving of the accolades it's receiving. The way the movie sets up your expectations is clever...you don't even realize it's setting you up. Then you get blindsided in the best way possible. The turn is not something you'd guess in a million years, but it doesn't feel like a cheat. Bong is totally back on form in this movie. Definitely check it out if you get the chance. |
Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
I saw this one a few months ago and it's still the best movie I think I've seen in 2019. Masterful satire and drama all twisted together into an unforgettable whole.

They showed the trailer during Joker at my Alamo Drafthouse. Can't wait for it to show up.

Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
They're selling tickets for this at all ArcLight Theaters. At the Hollywood one they're doing a special two-night 3-course Korean dinner event. Tickets are $100 for that one.

Shit, man. Just go get some Kogi and call it a day.

Re: Parasite (2019, D: Bong Joon Ho)
But is it in 3-D, and are Cherie Currie (of the Runaways) and Demi Moore in it??
(I kid, I'll see this) |
