I Am Mother (2019) S: Hilary Swank, Rose Byrne, Clara Rugaard -- Netflix

She'll keep you safe. Watch I AM MOTHER on Netflix June 7, 2019.

A sci-fi thriller about a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind. But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
Gotta say, this looks pretty good for a Netflix film... although not many have panned out IMO.

I smell a twist coming! I smell something.....

Looks good, I'll give this a watch. Does seem a step up from the usual, but then again so was Bright. And for me, that entire movie was just silly and tiresome.

Figured out the twist just from that trailer. But I'll still check it out.

Just watched it and it was awesome. Even with the "reveal," they still keep it implicit.

WETA created some of the effects and the droid, so it's all top-notch.

First hearing about this. Knowing absolutely nothing other than what's written above, I'm already getting an Oblivion vibe regarding the outcome.

This movie makes for a great triple feature with Moon and Oblivion. I'm still thinking about it 8 hours later. It's so cool and fucked up at the same time.

Excellent film. Beautiful production design. Would have loved to have seen it on the big screen.

Re: I Am Mother (2019) S: Hilary Swank, Rose Byrne, Clara Rugaard -- Netflix

This was a solid film and Clara Rugaard really has to carry the film on her shoulders so it is great to report that she is fantastic as the lead. I did not watch the trailer prior to viewing the film because this thread just had me interested in jumping right into viewing the film knowing nothing about it but the brief synopsis Netflix gives you when you select the film to add to your list. I recommend that if this film sounds like it would be your cup of tea that you skip the trailer and jump right in.

No spoilers, but Hilary Swank is not in as much of the film as you would think as it really lives or dies based on Clara’s performance.

Just watched this yesterday. It was a pretty decent movie. It seemed like a mix of a few other sci-fi movies mixed together, especially Terminator.

Checked this out on a recommendation from friends. Good but not great, I would rate it at 3 out of 4 stars as it had promise but it went into really predictable waters at about the halfway point. I am curious
Spoiler:
as to what exactly Mother wanted Swank's character to accomplish. The dozer that found her indicated that she had sent her to Daughter on purpose.

Spoiler:
At one point in the movie it indicated that it was over 13,000 days since the extermination. That's roughly 30+ years. My impression was that Swanks character was also a lab creation, but instead of being nurtured by the robot, she was placed outside and grew up an raised around the nature. I think she was being tested as well to see which one would put someone else's well being before their own. Daughter passed the test as she went back for her brother when she knew it could be dangerous. Swanks character put her well being in front of Daughter's. Swank's character failed the test and at the end of the movie she was executed by the robot just like the other child before daughter

That in mind
Spoiler:
were the kids we saw in the opening montage some the former daughters and not the one we followed for this story?
