Re: Avengers: Endgame (The Russo Brothers, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
I’m seeing so much more detail and subtleties at home watching in 3D versus when I saw opening night in crowded theater with crappy Real 3D, imo.
It’s remarkable. Things like cultured Hulk and fat Thor shouldn’t have worked and the whole back in time thing (not talking about seeing moments from the previous films, that was brilliant and true love letter/tying it all together, especially stuff we didn’t see or from another angle with now Avengers inserted in it or just recreating scene all together), some would have laughed off as farcical, but it does work and movie as a whole is just enjoyable from minute 1 to 181. Every moment, the music, the Avengers theme song, the heroes walk to begin the mission. It’s all done so amazingly well. It really gelled as one cohesive ending to a shit ton of movies and lore. Well done.
Did they recreate scenes entirely from pervious movies, like Winter Soldier, especially? I mean did Robert Redford actually come back and film for Endgame?

I believe that only Natalie Portman had scenes cut from Thor 2 put in and didn't have any new scenes done for Endgame. Everyone else though, including Redford (who was retired), came back to do new scenes for Endgame.

What a fucking glorious movie, superhero or not. That last fight with Thanos was epic and when they all appeared through the Doctor Strange portals, just magnificent.
One question...why Black Panther first out to greet Cap? Why not Bucky or even Sam, though Sam’s fly by was cool, but just curious. I know he stayed on Wakanda with BP and I guess kinda guarded over frozen Bucky and Boseman certainly pulled the scene off and all, but wondered. And did Hawkeye have a sword in comics? Cause he sure looked good here with it and I believe first time we saw in series...

In the comics Hawkeye became Ronin for a while, a name for a masterless samurai, and used a sword.

We spent a lot of time in the edit room playing around with the sequencing of the portals. We probably didn't lock that section of the movie until about a month before the film was in theaters. We always wanted Sam to be the first one to communicate with Cap via his comm and Sam was last in Wakanda, so logically the first portal that would open would the Wakandan portal. And the first person that would logically walk through a portal from Wakanda would be the king himself, bringing his army once again to the defense of Cap and the world.

Having Black Panther come out first was the right call.
He's like the equivalent of Captain America in a lot of ways, so when you see him walk through one of Doctor Strange's portals, you know there's gonna be a lot of whop-ass coming.

I watched the deleted scene with Tony's adult daughter that ^^^ he mentioned on Disney Plus.
There is a built-in video commentary track with the Russo Bros. that you can't turn off. So you cannot hear any of the dialogue in the scene.

NP man, I can’t believe how poorly Disney has rolled out this service; there was no reason for the apps not to be available for preloading, let alone glitches and differences between apps.

Couple nitpicky questions that I’m sure have no answer or importance, but why wouldn’t Nebula warn Clint and Nat about how they would have to get the soul stone?
How was Thanos able to wield Thor’s second axe that was created and almost kill him with it? No way he was worthy. Also loved seeing Ultron before and seeing Steve budge the hammer ever so slightly and seeing Thor’s expression while he does it. Then him wielding makes so much more sense. I guess Vision holding it too was bc he wasn’t really a being, but a construct or AI or whatever. But, Thanos?
Lastly, where did second Gamora go at end? I had always thought she was on Quill’s ship, but he was using map to search for her before Thor wipes it away.

Stormbreaker is not the same as Mjolnir and was not created by Odin's magic. It has no requirement of worthiness.

Odin put the magic in it that it could only be lifted by one who is worthy when he whispered into it before banishing Thor in the first movie.

The words are engraved on Mjolnir? I know that they are in the comic, but the only thing I see appearing and disappearing while Odin is whispering into it is the symbol on the side of the hammer. In the movie, I just assumed that Odin was placing the enchantment on it in that moment, as a way for Thor to earn back his worthiness. That and Thor had show himself to be pretty unworthy even before that, when he was wielding the hammer.
Maybe I'm looking at the wrong section of the video though, or maybe that symbol is what you're talking about.
In the comics, Stormbreaker did have a similar enchantment placed upon it by Odin, but in the movies, Odin is not alive to place that enchantment upon it.
