You’ve been having orgasm after orgasm about Top Gun since it was released 7 months ago. I find it hard to believe The Menu just surpassed it for good.

Without spoiling, do the horror elements involve any gore or is mostly just tension/suspense? Trying to figure out if I should watch this alone or suggest my wife watch it with me.

It has some violence and a little blood but not too much of what I'd consider gore. There is only one scene I think would be uh triggering for some folks.

Thanks. Mostly wanted to be sure this wasn't one that turns into something like Hostel but in a restaurant. Been trying to avoid too much detail on the story.

it only slightly edges out TG:M. But, they are totally different movies and I would rank them separately since one is a popcorn flick and the other is slightly more cerebral and surreal movie. The Menu, I’ll watch 1 more time very soon just so I get more, but I can’t see watching too many times in a short span. It’s really not that type of movie. TG:M is just fun every time. I not going to lie though, TG:M is a very rewatchable movie as my 4x so far will attest to. But it’s fun, thrilling, leave brain at home (still take your heart though) kinda flick. I think and it’s just MY OPINION (many seem to forget everyone has a right to their opinions. Why it should be called out more than once eludes me. But, whatever) I loved TG:M and it thrilled me more than any other movie in some time. The Menu just engulfed and surprised the hell out of me in its bizarre, macabre, satirical sort of way. Hell, I’ll watch this again rn. Put off a second viewing of Glass Onion, which I’m enjoying quite a deal more than first viewing.

I wouldn't consider The Menu a comedy, so much as a movie that has funny moments in it, same as Casino or The Sopranos.

I don't think you need to justify how much you enjoy a movie. The Menu is right near the top, if not the top, of my list of 2022 movies as well.

Similarly, I didn't find Top Gun Maverick nearly as enthralling as many seem to. To each their own and what not.

This reminds me of a conversation I had years ago with a former supervisor. He insisted that Dr. Strangelove wasn't a comedy because it's about nuclear war. How can that be funny? And yes, he had seen the movie.

Why So Blu?

Was this movie fun? Yes. That's about all it had going for it if we're gonna get into the minutiae. Is it one of the best films of 2022? Fuck no. To some it is and that's fine. Is it better than Top Gun Maverick? Fuck no.

Hell it's not even the best farcical horror film I've seen in the past few years that ends with a deserving entitled asshole character getting immolated along with other innocents in a ritualistic ceremony while being forced to wear a preposterous costume at the same time.
When I said this movie lacked originality, I fucking meant it.

But don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. Even if only one of the three British leads had a remotely convincing American accent.

Why So Blu?

I watched Strange Days right after The Menu and Fiennes used to have a pretty convincing American accent. It has been a while.

No fuckng way it's better than Top Gun: Maverick (which I've seen twice). Oscars? I'd be surprised if this gets one nom. Everyone was good but no standouts. Other than Anya's dress.

I’m 30 minutes in and resisting the urge to turn this off. Maybe don’t make your characters so insufferable, that it’s a chore for the viewer to sit through.
I get that’s the point of this film, but fuck.

I think Fiennes is the obvious standout. I can’t recall but I think I’ve seen him act in a similar way before.
