Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming musical “West Side Story,” has joined the cast of “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” for DC and New Line, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Zegler will play a key role with details being kept under wraps. Zegler also becomes the second Colombian American to be cast in a DC superhero project, following Sasha Calle joining the cast of “The Flash” in the role of Supergirl.

Helen Mirren has closed a deal to play the villain Hespera, a daughter of Atlas, in New Line and DC Films’ Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the sequel to the box office hit adaptation of the comic book. Zachary Levi is set to reprise his role of Shazam, with Rachel Zelger also aboard.

That gives me hope with Mirren on board. I thought the first was fun, but got a little hokey with all the Shazam! gods. I really don’t dig the high contrast/hypercolorized superhero outfits. But, overall it was good and always liked Levi, from Chuck, of course. The 3D was pretty good on the Blu too.
And Mirren is just always good from the mostly serious to the cheeky stuff like Red, Red 2, Hobbs & Shaw, though I think she was in a more recent F&F. She is quite versatile.

Hobbes and Shaw was the most recent. She was also in Fast 8, one film prior, which introduced her character.
As for the "high contrast/hypercolorized superhero outfits." it's Big with superheroes, it's not the Dark Knight.

I love both he OG and New suits. I hear the cape will be CGI which I love. I still think the Bolt should be bigger. I did see someone speculate that the smaller bolt is an homage to the older Captain Marvel comics/serial flick design.

In a way I知 surprised that this got pushed to come so soon after Black Adam. I would think it might be better to space the two characters apart. Also I wonder if Black Adam is supposed to be a part of this at all.
