Saw it last night with the wife and had an absolute blast. I thought they were going to save the Marvel family as the post-credit scene to tease/setup the sequel so when they went there, I loved it. And when Eugene said "Hadouken", it brought down the entire theater. I hope it makes enough between now and Endgame to warrant a sequel.

Loved it. Hilarious.
Got darker than I expected at times. The 7 Deadly Sins looked like something out of Clive Barker's mind.

And honestly, that $47m will likely be closer to $60m when all is said and done, unless it pulls a Jurassic World (which was headed to a large $130m opening after previews but wound up at huge $208m when all was said and done.) That mixed with the very strong critical and viewer reception, I personally think it'll be safe to get a sequel.

Yeah, I think their estimates are way low personally, but they're the experts.

Finally Warner/DC gets one right! If only they started the DCEU with this instead of the mediocrity that is Man of Steel, and kept this tone going for all the movies. Unfortunately it's probably too late to recover for the shared universe.
I got the sense from the ending animated credits that Shazam (the character) was going to participate in the shared DCEU. They should have replaced Cyborg with Shazam in Justice League, probably would have been a better movie, especially if Shazam came out before JL. Warner/DC screwed up big time.
They should make a Marvel Family (I know they can't call it that) cartoon and slap it up on DCU. The kids would eat it up.
Oh, and we saw Tawny. Thank you DC for reading this forum.

Just got back from this and absolutely LOVED it. Tons of heart, humor, and fun, with just the right dose of action and even some scares. It really was like watching something out of the E.T. / Goonies / Raiders of the Lost Ark era.
Best new DC movie outside of the Nolanverse? Quite possibly. I'm torn between it and Wonder Woman, but I had much more fun watching this than Aquaman (which I also really liked).
I could praise lots of things about this movie, but honestly the best part of the whole thing was Zachary Levi and the obvious ball he was having playing the part.

Saw it tonight - liked it a lot.
It did start a little slow, but it had 2 origins to set up, and 'first movies' for superheroes always start a little slow.
It did seem like a lot of the funniest bits were in commercials. But not all.
That moment in the tent was awesome.
And I was hoping to see who we saw in the last after-credit scene. The clues were there but quick.
We laughed, were disturbed by the baddie, but most importantly, I smiled a lot through it. Superhero movies can, should, be fun, and this one was.

It was nice to see Djimon Hounsou in TWO Captain Marvel movies this year.

Re-adjusted up to an estimated $51m for the weekend (from $47m). I still think it will go higher.

I went to see it a second time yesterday, and I liked even more this time. And everyone in the theater loved it as well.
One thing I noticed this time that I absolutely loved was at the end, when Supes appeared, they used the REAL (John Williams) Superman theme to introduce him.

So weird we get two rival Captain Marvel flicks in the same year and one dude was in both of 'em. :P

people can change opinion. i believe that is what is called flexibility of the mind. still $54 million seems too low for this highly rated, what looks to be highly entertaining movie. this should have done much better. we need more entertaining movies like this and should have done blockbuster numbers as every other franchise or origin story movie does...

Geez, Joe Schmoe gave it the worst vote on the Poll, but didn't bother leaving a comment why. I see he rarely posts, so I won't expect one from him.

Wow ... I get to be the dog here ... I was really conflicted with this movie, I had a lot of fun with it, but it felt as if it were written by a 12-year old. Certain story and character beats were straight out of a Disney Channel tv show. Tonally, it was all over the map. When it was good, it was really good. When it was off, it was really off.
I’m curious if this went through some major rewrites or reshoots. As others have mentioned, there are some moments that are pretty dark/scary that feel out of place with the rest of the movie.

I liked a lot of it, but I felt like nearly every scene was a beat too long. I was ready for it to be over long before the movie was ready to be over.
