Female ‘RUSH HOUR’ Reboot in the Works
EXCLUSIVE: STX Studios: Female ‘RUSH HOUR’ Reboot in the Works
Female-Centric 'RUSH HOUR' Reboot In Early Development From STX Studios
Female centric reboots are becoming the big thing. We have already seen Ghostbusters, Ocean’s 8, and What Men Want. A female-centric 21 Jump Street is also in the works, but that’s not the only buddy-cop franchise getting the female reboot treatment.
We have learned that STX studios are in early development on a female-centric reboot of the popular action comedy Rush Hour.
Details on the series are being kept under-wraps at this time. However, we have learned that the studio has offered one of the leading roles to The Meg star Bingbing Li, in the Jackie Chan role. No details to who would star opposite Li.
It is not known at this time if the long-awaited Rush Hour 4 will still happen.

You do realize that STX is partially financed and operated by the Chinese? I'm guessing the premise has appeal to the Asian market.
But, I highly doubt this will get made, especially with a potentially conflicting IP at Warner Bros. Many films in development never get made and I think this will fall into that realm.

Everything having to be a gender bender now is just lazy.

Ghostbusters sucked, Ocean 8 sucked, What Men Want sounds terrible, and this sounds even worse.
Rush Hour only worked to begin with because of the Tucker x Chan dynamic.
Bingbing Li is nice, but I just can't see her full-filling the role of a female Chan and there is literally no one I could see replacing Tucker.
Like really, why bother gender swapping established series, especially something generic like Rush Hour that only worked because of the dynamic of the leads working well together?

Good or bad, a female-centric version of Rush Hour can’t be any worse than the male-centric versions. Those movies are fucking terrible!

Rush Hour might as well be titled generic buddy action cop movie. The success or not would depend on the chemistry of the 2 leads and how good the screeplay is,could be 2 men,2 women,1 ,1 man and a woman etc. The only reason to call a generic buddy cop film "Rush Hour" is cause it's a well known brand and you will get eyeballs you otherwise not for a generic buddy cop film
Would so many dudes really be getting triggered if they rebooted this movie with 2 random male actors? Where was the outrage with the shitty Robocop and Red Dawn reboots like their is any time some movie is remade but with chicks.

Seems unrealistic to me. How are these tiny little weak women able to lift a badge, let alone a gun? Unless it's reworked to be set in a kitchen, then I guess that makes sense.

The first movie was fun at the time (and the only thing Chris Tucker has ever done that I enjoyed) but they are relics of a time when you could still be blatantly racist in a film. I'd be curious to see how they addressed that with a new version.

Not as much as Ghostbusters 2, and I loved that one as a kid. More than the first, even. Okay, maybe not more than... but I watched it a lot.
Not as much as Oceans 12 and 13, and I love most of Soderbergh's films.
I'm starting to think...
...you might not be the target audience for this flick.
It's okay. Neither am I. But we can just go and watch stuff that does interest us instead, right?

This is all about casting and chemistry. You don’t announce you’re rebooting Rush Hour before finding a perfect duo. They are putting the cart before the horse.
