There have been Beatles films (Nowhere Boy, Backbeat, etc.) but not a full-on biopic about their entire career. I suspect a lot of it has to do with music clearance and the approval from the two surviving members and the estates of John and George. Yes, they could do something unauthorized, but they'd never get any music rights that way - so what would be the point?

Doesn't seem like "Yesterday" had much trouble getting the rights.

There was "Man in the Mirror" about Michael Jackson, made for VH-1 I think, which was laughably awful and obviously couldn't get any of his music licensed.

The one question that looms for me is: How does a Michael Moore lookalike get a hot babe like Mandy Moore to marry him--for six years?

Re: Music Biopics you want to see?

Since Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen have already been mentioned, I'd like to see a biopic about Genesis and/or The Allman Brothers Band.

I forgot about Nowhere Boy. I remember hearing about it about it at the time but never saw it. I didnít even know about Backbeat though. I should check those out. Iíd like seeing something that covers them at the height of their popularity though. Like the 63-69/70 period.

Re: Music Biopics you want to see?

Honestly, I am okay with "None". Music Biopics are all so 'same-y". One is just like the next. The story arc is never that interesting because 1) You know that they will succeed in the end and their music will endure and 2) The challenges they face are never all that dire. Ruthless music executives, Tone-deaf music critics, drug addiction, promiscuous lifestyles. It's the same for every one.
I used to say that Spinal Tap pretty much ruined the Rock Documentary and you can never watch one with a straight face after Spinal Tap because it will always come back to that film. I can say the same thing for music biopics after the under-rated Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story. They nail every cliche so well that you can't watch another music biopic without being reminded of something in that movie.

That said,

Here was a band of five people where two couples were breaking apart at once and an incestuous intra-band affair was going on and still they made a CLASSIC album, a complete masterpiece. And to have to perform background vocals on your own kiss-off track -- which becomes a classic single? That is really quite unique. That is really the only one I would want to see. And the source material is readily available :

I agree that focused biopics work better than "the full story", and think that a "Rumours" movie would be AMAZING.

I'll pass on that one.
The 2 breakups were very ugly and didn't show any of the members in a good light.

George Gershwin. They did one way back in 1945 (with the obvious title Rhapsody in Blue), but we could use a modern one. I agree with those who say it's better to do something more focused, although in his case there aren't a lot of years to cover.

Can you imagine being at band practice when another member comes in with that song? You're like halfway through rehearsing it when you hear the lyrics and say "Wait a minute. What the FUCK?"

I had no idea this was being made. A little disappointed it's a Netflix movie, but I'll still check it out.

I mean seriously, this is like 20 years after and just watch how Stevie sings this directly to Lindsey

Yeah, that sounds like it would be very difficult to do on many levels. Music clearance, band approval, a single film to cover the Beatles' history? I haven't seen Nowhere Boy, but Backbeat mostly focused on the Stu Sutcliffe years (and mostly on Stu and Astrid) and the songs used were the covers they did during the Hamburg performances, so that was at least doable.
