This whole rental only for $19.99 for HDX only on recent movies is absolute horse poop. I know they’re trying to avoid pirating, but the need to go all in, or don’t offer it at all.
Bur no way in hell would I throw down $50 for a movie. I’ll go something like $24.99, but even $30 (especially in HDX only) is something I wouldn’t do.

Not to mention getting concessions. I would have much rather paid $30 so they could watch it at home.

Oh same here. I think when we saw Toy Story 4, it was a matinee, so around $27. Then concessions another $25 or so. That being said, I won't pay anymore than $24.99 or so to see a first run movie at home.

Didn’t I keep wishing for years that Nolan would do something small scale on the budget of Memento again? That would have been awesome to tide us over right about now, and he wouldn’t have to worry about losing a shit ton of money

I doubt he’s worrying too much as he’s not responsible for the coronavirus in any way. All of this is out of their hands. So yeah, they’re losing money, but the studio isn’t blaming him for it.
I’m kind of hoping all of this leads to a resurgence of the art house/independent cinema days when movies like Memento were made outside of studio and money influence.
Maybe this will force studios to think twice on the financials of constantly producing these kinds of movies. Then again, when should we expect another pandemic that pretty much closes the planet.

Nolan also gets 20% of the movie's box office gross. That's why it's important for this to be a theatrical release for WB to make any movie.

Tenet is officially opening
Tenet is officially opening
With the foreign box office showing some signs of life in the pandemic, Warner Bros. will open Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited Tenet in over 70 countries worldwide starting on Wednesday, Aug. 26. The plan includes Tenet opening in Canada on Thursday Aug. 27 before the U.S. release which will be in select cities on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Exactly where stateside? In those cities where it’s been safe to reopen. We already know that AMC has announced a mid-to-late August reopening. Regal and Cinemark have yet to detail their reopening plans again. With capped capacities and a select city rollout, Warners is hoping for a long tail on Tenet.
The first major swath of openings on Aug. 26 will include Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the UK, followed by Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Lebanon, Malaysia, Middle East, New Zealand, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates on Thursday Aug. 27. Then on Friday, Aug. 28 East Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Vietnam will go. Kuwait and Qatar are planning Sept. 3; Azerbaijan, CIS Others, Kazakhstan, Russia on Sept. 10 with Japan on Sept. 18.
Those markets, in addition to China, which are awaiting a release include most of Latin America where the peak of COVID-19 hasn’t been reached, Brazil already counting over 2 million cases according to the BBC. Hence that country, along with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Uruguay and Venezuela will have to wait for Tenet.

Theaters near me are open and should be getting it. I also hope that means the local Alamo Drafthouse will be close to reopening.

August 27 Sure, why not?
They should just throw a dart at a calendar at this point.

Apparently more head scratcher than game changer (honestly, not a surprise) but apparently still thoroughly worth watching.

Watching that trailer, I'm reminded of a recurring segment on The Chuck McCann Show, a local NYC kids' show in the 1960s, where McCann played Mr. Backwards and did everything in reverse. For instance, in one skit, he was a short order cook making bacon and eggs when an off-camera voice tells him the order's been canceled so he uncooks everything and the eggs fly back into their shells, etc. This film doesn't look as funny, though.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin (Slaughter Lane) has tickets up for Advance Purchase.
I know it's a bit of a drive.
