Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

Welcome to the 10th annual DVDTalk Best Picture Oscar Poll!

Once again let's see how far apart we are from the Oscar voters. Keep in mind that this is a poll for our favorite movies and not an attempt to predict the actual Oscar winner.

Iím not voting yet because I still need to see some of these.

Previous DVDTalk poll winners and (Oscar winners):

2018: The Shape of Water (The Shape of Water)
2017: Hell or High Water (Moonlight)
2016: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spotlight)
2015: The Grand Budapest Hotel (Birdman)
2014: Gravity (12 Years A Slave)
2013: Django Unchained (Argo)
2012: Tree Of Life (The Artist)
2011: The Social Network (The King's Speech)
2010: Inglorious Basterds (The Hurt Locker)

Re: Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

Of what Iíve seen, BlacKkklansman sticks with me the most. I donít think itíll win best pic but Iíd love to see Spike win director, especially since Cuaron has one already.

Seen: Black Panther, Klansman, Roma
I want to see: Favourite, Bohemian
Mildly interested: Vice, Green Room
Not if you paid me: Star is Born

I've seen everything except for Roma and Black Panther. Black Panther I'm not gonna watch, and Roma I'll be going to see tomorrow. Right now my favourite is "The Favourite", but I suspect Roma will overtake it.

I haven't seen any of these movies. I'd like to see Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born, that's about it.

BlacKKKlansman

Itís the only movie Iíve seen this year that actually moved me.

And as an an added bonus Iíd like to see Trump meltdown on Twitter if it wins.

I've only seen Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, and A Star is Born. I'd like to watch BlacKkKlansman and Roma at least before voting.

Re: Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

I've only seen Black Panther and BlacKkKlansman so far.

Planned to eventually see Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born, but all the others didn't interest me at all just from reading the synopsis and checking out the trailer.

Since I can only vote on what I've seen obviously and I didn't get why people liked BlacKkKlansman so much... felt average at best imo. I only have one possible choice to vote for and that is Black Panther.

I don't feel it deserves "Best Picture", but out of the existing nominations, it's the only one I can rightfully vote for.

Unfortunate that much better films didn't make the nomination.

I've seen all eight (A List). Roma is probably the most impressive technical achievement, but BlacKkKlansman was a much more visceral experience for me. The coda had me shaking with anger.

Re: Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

Favorites in order:

BlacKKKlansman (I'd want it to win just for the klan baptism/Jesse Washington-montage alone)
Black Panther (I really want this to win Best Song, but that aint happening. At least the costume win should be a lock)
Bohemian Rhapsody (Liked it, but....Nothing to say)
Green Book (Basic, but the performances really carry it. I'm still confounded by Ali's acclaim/nominations/wins for Moonlight, but he really deserves the win here)
Vice (Liked this more than I thought I would)
A Star is Born (Even though I napped during some of it due to a headache)
Roma (Story just wasn't as engaging as it should have been for me. But I do want this to get the cinematography win)
The Favourite (I didn't mind Dogtooth, but Lanthimos just hasn't been doing it for me since then)

Edit-Goddamnit. Did I just accidentally vote for Black Panther?

Re: Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

A Star is Born is hands-down the best-made movie. But it's got too much going against it (remake of a remake, predictable story, not about something "important") to win. But I'd vote for it just because I think Cooper directed the hell out of that film.

I've yet to see Roma so I will abstain until then, but if I had to choose now I'd go with BlacKkKlansman. Although my favorite movie of the year is still The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

In reading the posts I think that has happened twice now.

I have not seen Vice but with that star studded cast it looks good.

Roma is my LEAST favorite movie on the list. I don't get all the love for it. Had it been the work of a first-time director, yes. But it's one of Cuaron's lesser efforts, despite its autobiographical roots. Even the direction isn't an achievement by what we've seen Cuaron do in other films (just some impressive tracking shots, but nothing extraordinary).

I'm with you on that. Roma is a well crafted film but my least favorite on the list and the only one I have no desire to see again (though I can wait quite a while before I revisit The Favourite again - well acted but pretty weird). I picked A Star is Born as my favorite -- I really enjoyed it, and Green Book would be second.

Re: Vote For Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee (2019 Oscars)

Last year was the first year I saw every nominee before the Oscars, thanks MoviePass. This year, I’ve seen two so far. Black Panther is perhaps my favorite comic book movie of all time, and while I’d guess all the other nominees are better films, BP would likely stay my ‘favorite’ even after viewing the others.

It would be nice if they could release all BP nominees on home video prior to the award show so people could catch up on them.

If they want to increase ratings, maybe having the nominated movies more readily available, and having viewers being more invested in the categories, would be a good idea.

Four are available right now (BP, BR, Star is Born, Black Klansman) and another (Roma) streams on Netflix. That's pretty good.

As of last week Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, Green Book, The Favourite, and Vice were still not available to rent.

Black Panther, BlackKklansman, and Roma were available though.

Maybe more were released this week. I havenít checked yet.

edited to add: I just checked, looks like BR came out on Tuesday and A Star is Born comes out next Tuesday, so I guess Iíll be able to catch those before the show.
