Disney Rings ‘Hunchback’ Bell: David Henry Hwang To Script Live Action Musical, Alan Menken/Stephen Schwartz Writing Music

EXCLUSIVE: Tony-winning M. Butterfly playwright David Henry Hwang has been set by Disney to write Hunchback, a live action musical adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz will write the music. Mandeville is producing along with Josh Gad. I had heard that Gad, a star of the Mandeville-produced blockbuster Beauty and the Beast, might play the lead character, but insiders at the studio said no casting is solid at this point.

Hilarious!
Oh, yes. Tim Burton would be brilliant. And even though I can only take Gad in small doses, I think he could actually work as Quasimodo. Because he's already odd looking without any make-up or latex.

I'd totally watch that, I actually really like a lot of that disney movie. That Hellfire song is one of my favorites. There's been a number of broadway shows based off the disney musical, if they based the live action movie off those, they wouldn't be bad.
