Guess moving it to next summer was a good idea after all. But we don’t know how much is in the can already and how long post production will take.

They started in March 2020 and have had to stop/start multiple times.

this movie seems like it's the next Tenet and will likely be the bellwether for the big-budget tent pole films moving forward. I really hope it does well but I have to wonder if they should somehow try to scale things back to get it in the can.

Re: Mission: Impossible 7 (2022) — S: Cruise — W/D: McQuarrie

The veil is slowly being lifted on Ethan Hunt's new mission.

Not much is known about Mission: Impossible 7, including a title, but Tom Cruise's heart-stopping new stunt was unveiled during Paramount's presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, and it left the audience screaming.

Footage showed Cruise working with stuntmen to prepare to ride a motorbike off of a massive ramp on an also massive cliff, fly off the bike, and parachute to the ground. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie called it not only the biggest stunt in the movie, but "by far the most dangerous stunt we've ever done."

Getting the stunt right involved 500 hours of skydiving training; 13,000 motorbike jumps (yes, you read that right); and months and months building the ramp in Norway. Footage ends with Cruise doing the final stunt himself in true Cruise fashion, which got a huge reaction from the CinemaCon crowd. "Tom Cruise rode a motorcycle off a cliff six times today," a stunt coordinator said.

"The only thing that scares me more is what we have planned for MI8," McQuarrie exclaimed.

You know they’ll show that stunt on the trailers, effectively ruining any excitement about it. You know, like the past few movies and their trailers.

I thought that upcoming motorcycle stunt was already widely known?

And yeah, shows like Entertainment Tonght and Extra are going to beat the coverage of the stunt into the ground by the time this is released. Ultimately what we see in the movie will be cool but somewhat of a let down after all the hype. Just like that stunts in the last few movies.

Still, M:I is probably my favorite running franchise at the moment so I’m all in now matter what!

It’s already known, I mean after it’s cut and edited. We’ll see just about all of it in the trailer.

13k motorcycle jumps? Maybe if potholes and speedbumps count.

They won't show the full sequence, but of course they'll promote it and show the initial shots - as they should. That's why they spend millions of dollars on them, because that will go into the marketing of the film.

That’s why I added it’s just like every previous movie and the trailers tied to it. We know the franchise and what it delivers. They can stop showing the highlight stunts in the trailers and they’ll still make major bank.

Re: Mission: Impossible 7 (2022) — S: Cruise — W/D: McQuarrie

Such a bummer about all these delays from Paramount. I was actually looking forward to all three films (this, Jackass Forever, and Top Gun: Maverick).

I hope this isn’t going to lead to delays from other studios.

Well they're pretty dependent on box office to make their money back. AFAIK, their app isn't really the talk of the town. So it makes sense they are trying to get the most bang for their buck (hopefully on the other side of Covid).

Paramount isn’t the kind of studio that can afford to not release these movie at a time that will bring them the most BO $$.

Tom Cruise could die and he'd still have about five years' worth of movies to release.

Lame about another delay. That’s a long one too.
