Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)

Abducted in Plain Sight (2017) -- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3444312/?ref_=rvi_tt
Has anyone else seen this documentary? It concerns a case from the 70s where an adult man was obsessed with an adolescent girl. We watch a lot of true crime movies and shows, so we weren't shocked by the story, but the actions and reactions of those involved were simply bizarre. If this had been made as a fiction film, it would have seemed far-fetched.

I haven't seen it or heard of it, but thanks for the alert. Sounds intriguing to this true crime aficionado.

Check it out and then share your thoughts. Our reaction was very similar to a horror movie experience. But instead of yelling "Don't go in there!" at the screen, we were yelling, "Why aren't you calling the police?" or "How can you think that's OK?".

Since you're in Toronto, it's worth noting that the Toronto Public Library has disc copies of this on order, in case you've got a card. Although I'm sure it's available to stream already somewhere.

Damn, what looks like a kidnapping has so many layers to it. Talk about a master manipulator.

Re: Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)

I saw this about a week ago, and I agree with you, Mike Long, that it seems very far-fetched. The parents didn't seem like dummies, but they allowed this to happen several times when it should have been nipped in the bud immediately. The girl was brainwashed by the guy, which didn't help matters, but the situation needed someone to take charge. Crazy story.

It does seem far fetched but brain washing in no joke. Still happens all the time. Especially in cults like the one the parents belonged to.

Presumably you do it if you're actually/secretly gay in spite of your religious brainwashing -- which this family seems to have undergone in spades -- convincing you that it's a sin. The movie seems to very faintly imply that he went beyond mere
Spoiler:
handjobs
but doesn't elaborate too much. Perhaps that realization might have shocked the dad even at his advanced age.

Brian T, did you get my PM? The only reason I ask is because this is the second PM in a row that has gone unanswered, and I'm wondering if the new site is sending them off to never-never land.
