A gripping true story of humanity and heroism, HOTEL MUMBAI vividly recounts the 2008 siege of the famed Taj Hotel by a group of terrorists in Mumbai, India. Refusing to leave their guests, the renowned chef Hemant Oberoi (Anupam Kher) and a waiter (Academy Award-Nominee Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire) choose to risk their lives to keep everyone safe. As the world watches on, a desperate couple (Armie Hammer, Call Me By Your Name and Nazanin Boniadi, “Homeland") is forced to make unthinkable sacrifices to protect their newborn child.
Starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, and Jason Isaacs.
Arrives in theaters this March.

I saw the trailer for this when I went to see They Shall Not Grow Old last week. Looks intense.
If any of you have time, I highly highly recommend watching this 1 hour documentary that originally aired on HBO 10 years ago called "Terror in Mumbai" It's an intense chronicle on the events that night with security camera footage and eyewitness accounts.

I really want to see this, but it looks like it doesn't open near my area until next weekend. However, I'm busy with work next weekend, so I probably can't see this until April 1st at the earliest.

This opens Friday in wider release. Got a ticket to see it on Monday as I'm busy with work this entire weekend. I am looking forward to it as I thought the true story was really compelling and I loved the HBO documentary.
Apparently there is an Australian movie called "One Less God" that was also made about this incident. It was released last Fall. I don't know if it exists on any platform in the States. Probably unlikely.

Edit:
Apparently One Less God is available on iTunes for a $5 rental.

It was a horrible tragedy...carried out by the Worst of the Worst.

This being a re-telling of a real event (one I recall well) may be too depressing for me to sit thru.
It seems like it will be one of those films that probably will raise my blood pressure thru the roof.
I do like this genre, but I don't know about this one...

Saw it last night. Very intense and brutal, obviously. I'm surprised this was the director's first feature. Well done.
Jason Isaacs is one my favorite actors. He has such a large range. He was awesome in this. Dev was great too.

Saw this today and agree on all points. It's a tough and often brutal film to watch, but very worthwhile. Kudos as well to Armie Hammer and the actress who played his wife. She has an incredibly powerful scene (you'll know when you see the movie).

So good. Just got back from it and it's violent, intense, terrifying and extremely brutal. If you're even remotely sensitive to sadistic violence and murder, then this is probably not for you. I can already think of at least one forum member who constantly complains about sadistic violence in the TV forum. This is definitely not for him. It had to be brutal and violent. These terrorists killed with no mercy. I think I may rent "One Less God" from Apple and see how they chronicled the events and how it differed from this movie.
But, it was an excellent movie IMO. From the 2nd act on wards, I was glued to my seat. Dev Patel was really good in this. I was also glad that they avoided going with potential cliches to turn this into an action movie, which it's not. It's just amazing how badly prepared the Mumbai PD was to handle this incident.

Not worth starting a new thread for since probably most of you won't watch it, but I just rented "One Less God" or "House of War" on Apple TV to compare it to Hotel Mumbai.
Here's the trailer:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/61U9L78KnAQ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It's an Australian produced movie from 2017 also about the incident.
Overall, it's a much lower budget movie compared to this one. Most of it takes place inside the Taj Hotel on the upper floors, but it's very small in scale and you can tell it's just sets. And according to IMDB it was pretty much filmed entirely in Australia. They don't show anything from the outside and try to intercut news footage. Hotel Mumbai is better made IMO and more intense. It really showed how twisted the terrorists were. This one tried to take a more psychological approach to the attack and go inside the heads of the guests and what they were thinking. It ends on a really dark and somber note.

Gee that was a refreshing change
No John McClane's, no Jack Bauers, no Jason Bournes
no civilians taking out terrorists unrealistically. I did want to see one of the cooks use his chopper
Actually i think they made everyone too victimy. the 8 police who went into the hotel before special forces arrived, all they did was wing one of the terrorists, they didn't take any of them out ! Yes the terrorists had automatic weapons, but they were kids, not Spetsnaz Alpha Group
good gritty film which kept me on the edge of my seat.

FYI
This is now on Hulu.
The subject matter is dark and very unpleasant, but it's a really good film. It's worth watching.

Great drama...very tense.
The film itself follows the true history fairly closely.
Of course, there are moments of added melodrama, but still...
The BD's AV is excellent.
