Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, D: Serkis) - News, Rumors, Cast

‘Venom’ Sequel in Works With Kelly Marcel Returning to Pen Script (EXCLUSIVE)
By Justin Kroll Film Reporter@krolljvar

Following box office smash “Venom,” Sony Pictures is putting the wheels in motion for a sequel to the antihero adventure. The studio has tapped Kelly Marcel, one of the screenwriters from the first movie, to pen to script.

Sources close to the negotiation tell Variety that, although an exact amount couldn’t be unveiled, Marcel’s deal was a significant one. She will also executive produce the follow-up, which will see Tom Hardy return as the eponymous symbiote.

Sony declined to comment.

“Venom,” hailing from Sony Pictures’ arsenal of Marvel characters, grossed a massive $855 million worldwide. The news comes after the studio recently dated an untitled Marvel sequel for October 2020. Comic-book enthusiasts put the pieces together to assume that slot was for “Venom 2,” giving it the same release date as its predecessor.

Michelle Williams is expected to rejoin Hardy, as is Woody Harrelson, who will portray Carnage in the sequel. A director has not been set yet, though sources say the studio might look for a new filmmaker as “Venom” helmer Reuben Fleischer will be busy shooting the sequel to Sony’s “Zombieland.” Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.

Prior to “Venom,” Marcel was best known for adapting another box office hit, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” She currently has a handful of films in development, including an Elvis Presley biopic and Disney’s “Cruella.”

She is repped by WME, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and attorney Jason Sloane.

Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) also in the mix.

The first one was surprisingly terrible. I’d be up for part 2 if it’s competently made. Although none of those three directors have me very excited.

I guess if I had to choose I’d say...Wyatt?

The final scene in Venom was a CGI extravaganza clusterfuck. Not an atrocious movie by any means but one that I give no repetitive viewing symbiotic f---s about.

Travis Knight would rock. Bumblebee was fucking fantastic. The downside to that is that he won't direct Bumblebee 2.

Mrs. Melasnus really liked the first movie.
I thought it was just OK...at best.

Tom Hardy posted then deleted a pic of him and Serkis together on Instagram. Looks like Serkis is the choice.

Don't tell my wife and daughter that. They've only watched it 30 times. Then again it may be for Tom Hardy and not the film

Guess I didn’t realize Serkis directs too. I can see him benefiting a film like this where there’s lots of motion capture.

re: Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, D: Serkis) - News, Rumors, Cast

Venom is the worst movie I've seen in years. Well, the worst 3/4 of a movie, since I turned it off and never finished it. People seem to like it though, for reasons that I will never understand, but it is, as far as I'm concerned, soup to nuts, top to bottom, inside and out a piece of dog shit.

I sincerely hope they ditch the campy so-bad-it's-good vibe they were intentionally going for with this first movie, and treat the sequel with at least a little respect.

I didn’t mind the first one when I saw it, but I’ve had no desire to revisit it since seeing it in the theater. I’ve come close to picking it up a couple times when it’s been on sale for $10 or so but have resisted it. I think it’s alright in a so bad it’s good kind of way.

re: Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, D: Serkis) - News, Rumors, Cast

After the Spidey/MCU news... comes this disappointment...

'Venom 2' Adds 'X-Men' Films Producer to Ranks
SEPTEMBER 26, 2019 12:00PM by Borys Kit

Andy Serkis is directing the next installment of the franchise centered on the Spider-Man anti-hero.

Venom 2 is beefing up its producer ranks.

Hutch Parker, the executive-turned-producer who worked on the recent X-Men movies, will produce the sequel to Sony’s Spider-Man-centric Marvel-based movie being directed by Andy Serkis.

Parker joins producers Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Matt Tolmach on the project, which is heading toward a shooting start in mid-November. Insiders say Parker quietly joined the project several months ago at the behest of film chief Tom Rothman.

Tom Hardy is reprising his role as the crusading journalist who bonds with a ravenous alien symbiote. Michelle Williams and Reid Scott are also due to return, as will Woody Harrelson, who was featured in a cameo in the 2018 movie.

Parker is an old hand when it comes to Marvel characters. As an executive at Fox, he worked on several X-Men movies dating back to X2: X-Men United. When he transitioned to producing, he worked almost exclusively on Fox's Marvel films, ranging from Joshua Trank’s Fantastic Four and Simon Kinberg’s recent Dark Phoenix to the Oscar-nominated Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Yeah I would left the Trank and Kinberg stuff out

The fact he worked on Logan makes me think he may not interfere with production much, other than keeping it on schedule and making sure the directors have the tools they need.

re: Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, D: Serkis) - News, Rumors, Cast

EXCLUSIVE: It looks like Carnage will have company in Sony’s upcoming Venom sequel. The Marvel Comics character called Shriek has been incorporated into the plot of the Venom sequel (due in theaters on Oct. 2, 2020), according to two sources close to the project.

A Sony spokesman declined comment , citing the early-days status of the project, which won’t begin principle photography until early next year. The addition of Shriek is a logical choice considering the character’s history in the pages of Marvel Comics as the sonic-powered accomplice and romantic interest of serial killer Cletus Kasaday, aka Carnage, the monstrous archenemy of Venom.
