Your Worst/Most disappointing Movies of 2018
With today being the last day of 2018, wanted to see what some of you thought were the worst/Most disappointing movies of the year.
I realize that most here are extremely picky and don't go to the movies every weekend and maybe pick and choose the ones that they think look good or get great reviews. Movies are a huge time and money investment, so I know it may be tough and almost impossible for some to make this kind of list because no one wants to spend money on bad movies. So I get this may not really work for those who are picky try to avoid going to movies that are slammed by critics and on RT.
I don't want to keep this worst because I think there are some that we go into hoping for a great experience and then end up being disappointed.
But hey, not everything that looks good is a winner.
Try to keep these movies that were actually released in 2018.
Having AMC A-List and to a lesser extent MoviePass did let me see more movies in the last year + than what I would normally have gone to without it. Some of these on my list I did watch via a cheap Redbox rental.
Here's mine:
1. Truth or Dare - Just awful.
2. Hotel Artemis - Very disappointing considering the cast.
3. The Darkest Minds - X-Men rip-off
4. Mile 22 - Very disappointing and frustrating story.
5. The Happytime Murders - Not funny and sometimes cringe-worthy.
6. The Predator - Horrendously disappointing considering Shane Black wrote and directed it.
7. The Girl in the Spider's Web - Ended up being a by the numbers action movie.
8. The Possession of Hannah Grace - Cheap throwaway movie from Sony. Shay Mitchell is hot and that's really all I can say about it.
9. The Nun - Disappointing, predictable and not scary.
10. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies - Love DC. but these characters are all little pieces of shit.
Honorable mention: The Commuter

The one that stands out to me most is The Predator. I really thought with a decent director like Shane Black at the helm that it would be better than it was. I didn’t completely hate it, but it definitely could have been a lot better.

My biggest disappointment in the theater this year was Venom.
So many things were wrong with it... I don’t know where to start or where I would end.
Top 5 Disappointments of 2018:
1. Venom
2. Pacific Rim Uprising
3. Rampage
4. Skyscraper
5. Maze Runner: The Death Cure
(I saw 27 theatrical releases in 2018)

With the exception of Hotel Artemis I don't think anybody had high expectations for those other movies.

The Predator has huge expectations coming into this summer. Well known FOX franchise and the guy who wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys and Lethal Weapon wrote and directed it.

Out of that list in the OP's post I'll agree with The Happytime Murders. It was a cool idea but just not a very good movie. I still want to see the Teen Titans Go movie as I like the tv show.

I don't think expectations were that huge, the average person doesn't know Shane Black and the franchise hasn't exactly been a big one outside of the first Arnold movie. It's not that much of a surprise it only made about as much as Predators.

Come on, really? You didn’t enjoy any of those? The Marvel movies especially feel like films you should know what to expect going in. I think Black Panther is overrated but not one of the worst or a bad movie. Fallout is one of the best action movies in a long time in my opinion.

Rodriguez got Predators under budget by like 4 million, so it was easier to make that money back. Predators had those awful test screenings and they had to reshoot the ending over again. The rest of the drama with Munn and Black didn't help matters much either during the promotional tour.
Had it been kept at Predators' budget it would have been profitable. I'm not saying it's a good film. It's grindhouse trash and valid just for that.

I may be in the minority but I didn't care for Blade Runner:2049. Loved the original but thought this sequel was too long and boring. Very disappointed this was directed by Denis Villeneuve and I loved his work such as Sicario and Prisoners. Only good part about the film was Ana De Armas, she a babe.

Of course there were and those issues would not have mattered had the film been kept at its original budget.

I don’t think the hype was tremendously huge for The Predator, but it’s still a franchise with a loyal fanbase. Add in that it was directed by Shane Black who brings some of his own fans as well as crossover fans and I’d say the hype was decent enough to consider it disappointing. The franchise doesn’t have the biggest mainstream appeal but there definitely still is a fairly large fanbase. There’s a reason why it still produces new merchandise and whatnot despite not every film being fantastic or hugely successful.

Any movie can be disappointing, regardless of hype. I wasn't trying to argue otherwise. I'm just disagreeing that overall expectations were huge, as it was doubtful it was ever going to be a giant blockbuster.
