Re: Forgettable movies with star studed casts

And then there's "A Bridge Too Far", a big-budget WWII that tried to get everyone that was an International Box Office name in the late '70s: James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, Elliot Gould, Gene Hackman, Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Denholm Elliot, Hardy Kruger, Maximilian Schell, Laurence Olivier, Liv Ulmann, Arthur Hill and other familiar faces. Director/Actor Richard Attenborough was attempting an All-Star WWII film similar to "The Longest Day" in the early Sixties.

It really didn't end up making much of an impression, as I recall. Some say it wasn't the right time for a war epic (right after Viet Nam), some say it was because it was about an Allied campaign that failed, and some say that it was too long or all the stars upstaged the story.

Still, if you're an old fossil like me and you watch the credit sequence with the theme, you can't help but think you're getting ready to see a real epic.

Seconded. Sadly, I gave them my money at the theater. So disappointed. In which case, I guess it doesn't fit the OP, since I've never forgotten the let down.

Also, a big thumbs down to inclusion of any of the '70s disaster films, those suckers are gold!

I'll go with Ocean's Twelve.

Maybe in 1991 it was a star studded cast

The Circle: Has Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, John Boyega, Bill Paxton and Karen Gillian.
Only three people the average person knows in that cast.

So agree to this. I love "Earthquake", "The Towering Inferno", "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Airport '75 and '77".

Don't forget Meteor with Sean Connery and another long list of stars. Another great cheesy 70's disaster flick!

We went to see Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey at a single screen theater, and the theater manager said we could all stick around to see Mobsters for free if we wanted. It was probably just to gin up sales at the concession counter, since no one was coming in to see Mobsters anyway. So yeah, it was forgettable even when it was released.

To be fair, the dudes in Mobsters were hardly even studs, much less stars!

Larry Crowne - Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, other people including George Takei, Bryan Cranston, Pam Grier, Cedric the Entertainer, Taraji P. Henson, and Rami Malek (the latter obviously before they made it big).

LOL

Slater still has a career but he will never be as big or in demand as he was in the 90's.

Maybe it has its fans but the Ocean''s 8 movies are ok but forgettable.

If there is a list of good movies with loaded casts Nixon, Heat, and The Departed come to mind.

Nic Cage
Meg Ryan
Dennis Franz
Andre Braugher

Boring and very forgettable romantic drama. Nic Cage and Meg Ryan had zero chemistry.

One reason why this movie had some popularity in the late 90's was because the soundtrack had that Goo Goo Dolls song.

Re: Forgettable movies with star studed casts

In some of these examples, aren't we confusing "stars" with "recognizable actors".

When I saw the picture, but before I read what you wrote, I was literally thinking, "Who could ever forget that Goo Goo Dolls song?"

Re: Forgettable movies with star studed casts

Regarding City of Angels:

Nic Cage and Meg Ryan were absolutely stars back in the 1990s

Also, Andre Braugher and Dennis Franz were leads of 2 major network TV series back in the 1990s. So yeah they were absolutely stars and not just "recognizable" actors.

I'll accept that Colm Feore isn't a star.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

I saw this movie in the theater, and then later on started watching it again on HBO Go because I had forgotten I saw it and how BORING it was.

Murder on the Orient Express is a great pick.

Can't believe they are making a sequel to it.
