Green Book: How many different people associated with a movie can do a faux pas at the same time?

If ya aint gonna go with a Box Office Hit with tons of acclaim because of NegativeGenre Bias( Black Panther,Spider Man Into the Multiverse) a little seen Arthouse Film is probably a better option then a little seen Faux Inspirational Oscar Bait that win's(Green Book) cause of positive genre bias(Oscar Bait Genre)

I haven't watched the film but was Ali really a "supporting" cast member in Green Book? Everything I've seen made him look like the lead.

Re: 2019 Oscar Pre-award show discussion, nominees, etc.

I'm really surprised Won't You Be My Neighbor? wasn't nominated for Best Documentary.

I'm also really annoyed that First Reformed didn't get more but I knew that was coming. I'm glad Schrader atleast got a nom.

I'm hoping BlacKkKlansman upsets with Best Picture.

Re: 2019 Oscar Pre-award show discussion, nominees, etc.

Not that I care that much about Oscars, but I find it odd that Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody are both nominated as they didn't exactly impress critics all that much.
Pretty weak year for films in my opinion.

Nice seeing Pawel Pawlikowski get a best director nod.

Glad people are taking notice of Olivia Colman. Always loved her work.

The story is told from Viggo's point of view so while it is a co-lead in terms of screen time it could probably be called a supporting performance.

.
Annapurna and FOX put their campaign money behind Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody over If Beale Street Could Talk and Widows based on their popularity and BO momentum it seems.

I thought they were going to add a category for “Best Popular Film” or something like that. Did that idea get dropped?

I think they originally said it'd be implemented in 2020... but then backed off on that after the reaction.

They probably reconsidered the idea of giving Black Panther it’s own category when they could just nominate it for Best Picture.

You're not kidding. Such a horrible film, and I really wanted to punch that kid - so fucking annoying.

Once in a while one of these films slip into the category - but to find two of them in the same year looks bad.
But it's all about campaigning and politics anyway.

Re: 2019 Oscar Pre-award show discussion, nominees, etc.

Bohemian Rhapsody has one of the highest audience scores of the year, so that actually gets a pass imho. (8.3 on imdb, 89% audience score on rt, 8.1 on metacritic, A cinemascore)

Vice probably "felt important" to a chunk of the academy, and they love those there.

Surprised that Cooper didn't get that Best Director nomination He stood to join Orson Wells and Warren Beatty to be the only people to get Producer, Director Actor and Writer Oscar nominations for the same movie.

Curon got how many nominations himself? Four or five right? With Roma picking up two acting nominations, it's got to be a heavy favorite now.

Bummed that the First Man score wasn't nominated. Thought it was clearly the best one this year

It was a good score with unique sounds and I'm surprised it wasn't nominated considering it has been cleaning up with other awards, but it didn't seem too memorable. The three that did stick out to me this year were Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, and If Beale Street Could Talk. I'm glad they got noms and hope one of them take it.

Surprised that First Reformed only got 1 nomination. It should have gotten one for Best Actor and Best Director.

Also surprised to see that Farley didn't get a directing nomination for Green Book. That has to mean the movie has no chance at BP because I can't think of an example of a movie winning BP without a Best Director nomination. It must have happened but it would be incredibly rare.
