Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021, D: Schwentke)
Robert Schwentke, who received critical acclaim for his thriller “The Captain,” is in early talks to direct Paramount’s “G.I. Joe” spinoff, “Snake Eyes,” sources tell Variety.
Evan Spiliotopoulos, who wrote “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” penned the script.
Brian Goldner is among those producing the feature based on the Hasbro toys.
Snake Eyes is a silent ninja commando who dresses in all black, never reveals his face, and doesn’t speak. He stands out among the military anti-terrorist group and quickly establishes himself as the most popular. He has a special relationship with Scarlett, the team’s one-time only female member, and sometimes carries out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber. His archenemy is Storm Shadow, a ninja who is also his blood brother.
The pic would mark the third “G.I. Joe” film Paramount has produced in the last decade, with the most recent one starring Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis, and bringing in $350 million worldwide.
The studio and Hasbro have since being trying to figure out a new spin for the series, even turning to a writers’ room to form new ideas. The the studio is currently rebooting “Transformers” by spinning off the popular character Bumblebee.
Schwentke is best known for launching the “RED” series with Bruce Willis, and taking over the “Divergent” franchise by directing “Insurgent” and “Allegiant.” He most recently helmed the German World War II thriller “The Captain.”
He is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment.

Not sure if this is a new project or taking place instead of G.I. Joe 3... Will let the mods decide and could merge this with the GI Joe 3 thread.

Has Snake Eyes ever been revealed to be Asian? I thought he was always white considering his history with Storm Shadow with a very Octagon/Bloodsport/American Ninja type origin...

Spoiler:
While he wasn't pretty to look at, they did do some plastic surgery and he went without his mask for a bit...
Spoiler:
That's the comic canon... for what it's worth.

Well.. they can't use Lee Byung-hun for Storm Shadow. I know we all look young, but he's just about 20 years older than Golding.

Iko Uwais is talks to play Head Master
Also, it looks like the very few in this forum (I haven't had time to watch it yet) who have watched Iko's new Netflix series Wu Assassins hate it.

Samara Weaving Joins Henry Golding in G.I. Joe Spinoff 'Snake Eyes'
OCTOBER 14, 2019 11:00AM by Borys Kit
The 'Ready or Not' breakout joins Takehiro Hira in the action film.
Samara Weaving, who starred in sleeper horror hit Ready or Not, has joined Henry Golding in Snake Eyes, the G.I. Joe spinoff centered on the popular commando from Paramount in partnership with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures. MGM is also on board as a co-financier.
Takehiro Hira has also joined the production, which begins this week in Vancouver. Snake Eyes will also shoot in Japan.
Robert Schwentke, who helmed two installments of the Divergent franchise, is directing the action project that has Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner producing.
Snake Eyes, being played by Golding, is the ninja commando that first appeared in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics’ relaunch of the toy line, dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.
Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script for the solo installment, which centers on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining a ninja clan and in the process finding acceptance.
Andre Koji is already set to play Storm Shadow, a ninja who is both Snake Eyes’ blood bother and archenemy. Iko Uwais is playing Hard Master, Snake Eyes’ tough as nails teacher who is also a skilled sword master. Ursula Corbero will play the evil agent known as the Baroness.
Weaving will play they key role of Scarlett, the traditionally red-haired counter-intelligence officer who was the first female figure of the revamped Joe toyline in the 1980s. The character had a unique bond with Snake Eyes and frequently partnered with him.
Rachel Nichols played the character in the 2009 film, G.I .Joe: Rise of Cobra.
Weaving appeared in several movies such as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Babysitter (in the latter as the titular and evil character) as well as Showtime’s SMILF. This summer she toplined Ready or Not, Fox Searchlight’s well-reviewed bloody horror movie. The movie has grossed over $50 million worldwide on a bidget of $6 million since its late August release.
Weaving is repped by WME, Untitled Ent and Gang Tyre.

Re: Snake Eyes -- G.I. Joe Spin-off (D: Schwentke)
Margot Robbie's doppelgänger, Weaving, is breaking out and deservedly so. she brings something Margot Robbie (2 whole years older ) doesn't. more of a sense of fun and giddiness and seems younger than is and certainly younger in spirit, imo, than Robbie. Robbie has a little more gravitas under belt now and is pretty stellar and refined in her roles (Harley Quinn, perhaps not withstanding). Weaving so far has been in these low budget horror, mostly, and has been damn quirky and damn good. not as refined and more loose and just crazy in these roles. love her and Robbie, but nice that she is getting more noticed and standing above what could be competition with Robbie...
