Interesting film connection. One I hadn't thought about, but is pretty apt. I don't find Alex unlikable at all though. He's just a severe introvert. Or is there more to his story we didn't see in the movie?

The way he shrugs off dying as just another thing that can happen is more than a little disturbing. He’s certainly no role model.

The Big Blue is awesome. The director's cut is great.

Yes, the director’s cut, while probably too long for most audiences, includes a lot of wonderful stuff.

When I finally saw the short version, I was amazed at what they left out. However the theatrical cut does include one short shot that was left out of director’s cut.

Re: Free Solo (2018)

This week NatGeo is showing the spelunking doc about Hope Solo. Should be an intimate close up view.

Just finished this yesterday and wow, what an amazing feat. A true sport where there can truly be zero mistakes.

Great cinematography too

Re: Free Solo (2018)

For those still interested in seeing this, since NatGeo is part of Disney+ (and you have it), now's your chance.

Re: Free Solo (2018)

I saw it on Hulu a couple months back. Looks like it's still there as well.

Amazing documentary. Even my daughter was hooked.

Re: Free Solo (2018)

Just watched it on D+. The feat was amazing but insane, and I like how they covered that it takes a certain mentality to want to do it. I also liked how it showed how thoroughly he practiced and prepared, and how the camera crew were figuring out how to film him. The end was riveting.

Wikipedia says he and Shanni announced their engagement last Christmas. I didn’t expect that relationship to last that long (they met in 2015).
