They're remaking this already? The original film is awesome.

Not that the original was anything to write home about, but that looks awful.

Here's a better quality embed.

Don't like how they're making her a gun toting badass, when the original had nothing of the sort.

This opens this week. I can't wait for it to finally come out because I am so sick of seeing the fucking trailer every time I go to the movies.

I just realized that Catherine Hardwicke directed this remake.

I recently rented the original movie with Stephanie Sigman as the lead. She's actually one of the leads on SWAT on CBS now. It's a really dark movie, but I enjoyed it.

I did get an A-List ticket to see this remake on Friday. I like Gina Rodriguez from Jane the Virgin, so we'll see how this is. But yeah I'm also tired of seeing this trailer.

A few minutes ago I read A.O. Scott's negative review in The New York Times and it was the first time I've heard of this film.

Gloria, who travels to Tijuana to help her childhood friend Suzu (Cristina Rodlo) prepare for a beauty contest, is basically in the wrong place at the wrong time, something that might be said for everyone involved with this movie, audience included.

Yes, here is a plea to watch the original instead! Much better marketing in their poster too.

Re: Miss Bala (2019) (D: Hardwicke) S: G. Rodriguez, Cordova, Mackie, Lauria

I just got back from a matinee. I thought it was okay and very watchable, but I'm sure most who saw the original and happen to see this one will probably hate it. I did think Gina Rodriguez was good as the main character. They changed a few things and it wasn't as dark as the original. But for the most part was probably 75-80% shot for shot remake with some changes. The beauty pageant angle is also changed from the original. The original dealt more with the war on drugs. This one I think side stepped that angle somewhat. it's basically someone being at the wrong place at the wrong time and things implode from there one.

The ending is totally re-worked:

In the original:
Spoiler:

Laura is framed for murder and being one of the masterminds behind the assassination of the Police chief. It ends on a dark note after she manages to escape custody with her future in question.

In this one:

Spoiler:
Gloria rescues her friend from a prostitution ring, kills the corrupt Police chief and main drug dealer. She then gets recruited as some CIA asset in order to get all charges dropped against her. it ends on a more positive note.

I'd probably give this a B- as I thought Rodriguez was really good. I liked the original, but I don't have as big an attachment to it as others.

You should put a spoiler on the ending of the first film. ^
