The Suicide Squad (2021, W/D: James Gunn) -- News, rumors, etc.

If general audiences can go see Halloween (2018) and understand what the fuck is going on, they can see this. You're debating a title that may not be final, from a film that hasn't even been shot.
It has "Suicide Squad" in it and there's Margot Robbie as Harley. That's all people give a shit about.

I’m not debating anything. I’m giving my take on it in reply to Groucho’s post about being confused. I thought the title is set as The Suicide Squad according to that news piece that just came out.

As of now it is. For all we know it could change in two years.
My guess... the "The" is there because Gunn will try and envoke a "The Dirty Dozen" style film.

How’s I just think a subtitle or something to differentiate it more would be helpful. Hopefully they go that route. Adding The to the existing title is a pet peeve of mine anyways, and especially given that this is set to be out within five years of the original the Ayer version is going to be fresh in a lot of people’s minds.

Will Smith Exits ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel (EXCLUSIVE)
By JUSTIN KROLL
Even with the studio dating the next installment in the “Suicide Squad” franchise, Warner Bros. may already be losing one of the film’s biggest stars.
Even though his return had not been made official, sources tell Variety that Will Smith, who played Deadshot in the original, is not expected to return for the studio’s upcoming sequel. Sources say scheduling was the ultimate factor and that the decision was made on amicable terms between both sides with no hard feelings.
Though the studio has never confirmed who would be returning for “The Suicide Squad,” insiders say the studio has always wanted its biggest stars like Smith and Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in the first pic, to return while figuring out other casting decisions along the way.
The studio and reps for Will Smith could not be reached for comment.
The studio is still fully behind the sequel after the original did so well, bringing in $746 million at the box office.
James Gunn, who was brought on last year as the new writer and director, is hoping to start production this fall, which adds a ticking clock element to getting things out before it impacts pre-production.
The release date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.

I don't mind. Will Smith's Deadshot was one of the weaker aspects of the first film imo.
But I'll riot without Margot Robbie.

Right. Outside of Robbie, the first film had a pretty damn forgettable cast. Even Smith was mostly unmemorable. Hell, I was just scrolling the IMDB’s page for the movie trying to remember who was in it and I had completely forgotten Cara Delevingne was the silly villainess.

IDK, I liked Will Smith in Suicide Squad. However, it's not surprising. The only ones they really need are Viola Davis and Margot Robbie (even in a small, cameo-like role).

Coming from someone who’s not generally a big Will Smith fan I liked him as Deadshot. I’m not too upset that he’s not returning though.

Not surprising. From what I can tell that seems like a soft reboot. By the time this comes out in 2 years, David Ayer's version will be long forgotten.

Agreed. I like Will Smith's Deadshot but Elba is an upgrade.

Would be funny if this movie is awesome and a huge success. Will Smith pulls another Neo.

Joel Kinnaman aint returning either

Just give us a new cast with the exception of Robbie and Amanda Waller. I would have preferred Elba as John Stewart and have someone like Ethan Hawke or Clive Owen play Deadshot. Also, they should get someone like John Cena to play Rick Flagg. In the comic books, Flagg is a tough, big military guy, completely the opposite of Kinnaman
