Writer/director Audrey Wells dies as her movie premiers
https://www.thewrap.com/audrey-wells...riter-dies-58/
Directed "George of the Jungle" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" among others 58 years old cancer-shmancer Her last movie “The Hate U Give” premiered on Friday. it tells the story of Starr Carter, a poor black high schooler who attends a mostly white, prep school wh witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend. UtTS was the only chick flick I ever liked. Probably because I'm Italian and it was genuinely funny, like the suitor for Diane Lane's character who said to Italians a traffic red light was "just a suggestion." |

Re: Writer/director Audrey Wells dies as her movie premiers
I cannot say I recognize her name, but she was rather prolific and has done many recognizable kids/family films:
From Wikipedia: The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996), writer/producer George of the Jungle (1997), writer Guinevere (1999), writer/director Disney's The Kid (2000), writer Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), writer/director/producer Shall We Dance? (2004), writer The Game Plan (2007), writer The Fugees (2012), director A Dog's Purpose (2017), writer The Hate U Give (2018), writer I had seen the trailer for The Hate U Give in front of Black Klansman and it looked rather powerful and moving. I will make a point to seek it out now. This is also interesting from the article: Wells was born in San Francisco, and her early career included work as a disc jockey at jazz station KJAZ-FM as well as public radio in remote bush stations in the Alaskan Arctic, which she said gave her something to write about when she got to film school. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree at UC Berkeley and a Masters of Fine Arts from UCLA. |
