Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
This is pulling about $23.5m for the weekend and may beat A Quiet Place II by a small amount for 1st place.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
This was alright...definitely the worst of the 3. To be fair, I got really stoned halfway through the movie and nothing made sense

Did the devil make you do that too? I might give this one more watch to see if my views change. However, I never went back to the new Mortal Kombat or Kong vs Godzilla again, despite being able to watch them at home.

I was really disappointed with this one. I'm a big fan of the Conjuring Universe, especially Conjuring 1 & 2. This is probably the movie I was most looking forward to all year. Unfortunately, it was weak and forgettable.
I love the Warren characters. But they tried to do something new, and it didn't work. I was looking forward to a spooky haunted house movie, and instead I got Exorcist X-Files. It wasn't scary. The story was dull. And I hated the witchy stuff. |

I got shithouse drunk watching 1&2. I guess I’ll watch this one tomorrow.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
By far the weakest of the three. As stated, Wilson and Farmiga elevated things. I enjoyed watching this mainly when it focused on them, even though much of the story was rather meh. Also, I kept waiting for the courtroom stuff to kick in. I wasn't necessarily expecting a full on trial or anything. Well, maybe I was. I don't know. I figured something from the trial. I think the title of the movie made me expect it even more.
Anyway, this is definitely one of those movies that gets worse as the credits rolls and you think of different things, but I'd still say it's worth a watch, especially if you have HBO Max. Meh. |
Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
What a colossal disappointment. I love the first 2 films, and have enjoyed the expanded universe movies for what they are. This was my most anticipated movie of the year, and I dont know if I have been this let down since Crystal Skull.
Farminga and Wilson are the only thing keeping this movie somewhat together. It was just boring and not scary at all. I am ok with them not wanting to do another haunted house movie, but man, not like this. |

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
Watched it yesterday and thought it was mediocre. The first one is still the best. Part 2 sucked, so just because Wan is directing doesn't mean he would have done better with this one. Hell, he co-wrote this one, too, and look how it turned out.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
I liked 2 almost as much as 1. It says story by Wan, but this is mostly about the case of Arne Johnson, so I doubt he contributed anything significant on the writing of this one.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
While I didn’t think this was a waste of time, it definitely wasn’t as good as 1&2. It’d definitely better than all the spin offs though.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
I liked it more than I thought I would. The trailers didn't look that great and James Wan not directing didn't give me much faith, but it was better than I expected, although not as good as the first two movies.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
Decent enough third entry that gets a little goofy at the end but I liked it, though not quite as good as the first two. I'd say Michael Chaves did a fine job directing utilizing some of the tricks James Wan did in the previous entries (like a one-shot scene going through the house early on). But like the others, the biggest plus is with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga who were again wonderful together. ***½/*****

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
This was a huge disappointment for me - even more so as I thought Wan directed it - I'm a big fan of his so I was relieved that he didn't but he was still involved and got it made. I hope they stop here is this is what all future films will be like.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
I caught this last week on HBO Max. I don't think it's a massive disappointment like some of you thought it was. Farmiga and Wilson were still solid as the Warrens and the special effects were pretty good. I just didn't think it was that scary. I consider Annabelle Comes Home The Conjuring 2.5 since the Warrens had an extended role in that movie.
I'd probably give it a 7 out of 10. If they do a 4th part, I'd like to see the Warrens working in the late 80s or even early 90s. |
Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
Kind of sad that pretty much everyone didn’t think it was scary, yet this is the first Rated R one. They could have done so much more with it.

I just watched The Conjuring 2 again. It’s so good! I barely remembered it. Between this and Insidious I got them jumbled up.

Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
I was watching The Conjuring 2 and thought, “ooo the violence is stark for PG13” when she was at the Amityville house. It’s pretty lightweight for R. Violence isn’t everything. Hearing the old man talking in the dark got my blood pressure up more than most gore.
I quite like the Annabelle origins movie. Didn’t see The Nun or Annabelle 2 yet. |
Re: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021, D: Chaves)
Finally got a chance to watch this film earlier today.
As already mentioned, Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga are great (again), quite literally holding the entire film together. I'm in the minority but I really enjoyed the approach this film took, leaning more into mystery rather than the haunted house approach the rest of the series leaned heavily on. Considering the history of this case, I would have been perfectly fine if this film had even leaned into the True Crime genre a bit more. With that said, I thought the final act of the film was a letdown considering everything before it, as it wraps everything up with too many silly conveniences & explanations (even for a film like this). |
