Knives Out (2019, W/D: Rian Johnson) S: Craig, Evans, Curtis, Collette, Shannon, Stanfield, de Armas

Daniel Craig is starring in Rian Johnson’s new film.

Craig will play a detective in the independent murder mystery “Knives Out,” with Johnson producing and directing from his own script.

Production is expected to start in November before Craig shoots the 25th James Bond movie, which has seen its schedule thrown into uncertainty due to the recent departure of director Danny Boyle. Johnson, who is producing with partner Ram Bergman, will make “Knives Out” before starting to shoot an untitled new “Star Wars” trilogy for Disney and Lucasfilm, first announced last year. Johnson’s last film was 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide.

“Knives Out” will be financed through a new company that Johnson and Bergman are launching as the Toronto Film Festival gets underway this week. CAA Media Finance will represent the film’s North American distribution rights, and FilmNation will handle international rights, with CAA and FilmNation co-representing the right for China.

Craig has starred in the last four Bond films starting with “Casino Royale” in 2006, “Quantum of Solace” in 2008, “Skyfall” in 2012, and “Spectre” in 2015. With no new director yet hired to replace Boyle, it’s become increasingly likely that the next Bond film won’t make its announced release date of Nov. 8, 2019.

Craig starred in a pair of indie titles last year — Los Angeles riots drama “Kings” and heist comedy “Logan Lucky,” directed by Steven Soderbergh.

CAA reps both Johnson and Craig. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.

re: Knives Out (2019, W/D: Rian Johnson) S: Craig, Evans, Curtis, Collette, Shannon, Stanfield, de Armas

Jamie Lee Curtis has joined the A-list ensemble of Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out.”

The new role comes on the heels of Curtis’ success at the box office, with “Halloween” slashing records last weekend,

The movie stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, and Ana de Armas. Johnson will write and direct, as well as produce with Ram Bergman. Production is set to begin in November.

The pic from MRC is a modern-day murder mystery in the classic whodunit style, infused with Johnson’s original voice that informed films from “Brick” to “Looper.” Craig will star as a detective assigned to solve the crime. Details about Curtis’ character remain unknown.

The acclaimed actress can be seen reprising her role as Laurie Strode in the hit horror film “Halloween.” Curtis began her career in 1978, when she starred in the first “Halloween” movie. The reboot just shattered previous box office records for the franchise, grossing $76.2 million in its debut — the second-best October opening, trailing only “Venom.”

She has starred in many renowned films, including “A Fish Called Wanda,” “Trading Places,” and “Freaky Friday.” Curtis earned two Golden Globes for best actress in a musical or comedy TV series for “Anything but Love,” and best actress in a motion picture — musical or comedy for “True Lies.” She released her latest children’s book, “Me, My Selfie and I,” in September.

Curtis is repped by CAA.

re: Knives Out (2019, W/D: Rian Johnson) S: Craig, Evans, Curtis, Collette, Shannon, Stanfield, de Armas

Rian Johnson has pulled back the curtain on his secretive thriller Knives Out.

The writer-director brought the first footage trailer CinemaCon on Thursday, where he described the film as an interlude he was taking before getting "back to a franchise in a galaxy far, far away," a reference to his upcoming Star Wars trilogy he is writing.

"I've been a die-hard Agatha Christie fan since I was a teenager," Johnson said during Lionsgate's presentation. "Knives Out was my attempt to take everything I love about an Agatha Christie who-done-it, jam it into an all-star cast, give it a Hitchcock thriller, genre twist and set it in modern-day America."

Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette and Katherine Langford star, along with two stars who joined him on stage: Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Until Thursday, no plot details had been revealed, but Curtis revealed that Johnson plays her husband and Evans plays her son. The film centers on a detective (Craig) investigating a murder when he comes across an eccentric, combative family.

She called the film a "family gathering that turns bloody very quickly. These people put the 'dis' in dysfunctional, which should play very well this Thanksgiving weekend."

The trailer begins with two detectives (Craig and Stanfield) in a mansion following the death of their elderly patriarch (Christopher Plummer). The detectives ask the family to stay until the investigation has concluded — and they aren't happy. There's plenty of bickering amongst the family, including a moment where Evans' character points at each of his yelling family members and responds, "Eat shit. Eat Shit," to each one — just to give a taste of the instra-family drama.

It has the feel of Wes Anderson's Royale Tenenbaums — with Johnson's trademark genre twists.

"I suspect foul play, but I have eliminated no suspects," Craig says later in a southern drawl.

Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.

Sorry, that looks awful to me. I'm glad he's off ruining his career on his own and not doing it to franchises anymore.

This looks nice, but it's not really my type of movie. I like most of the cast, and really like seeing Chris Evans in something other than Cpt America. He's great.

looks interesting. i don't expect quirky with Johnson which this screams, but it could work. or at least better than another similar whodunit? in MotOE remake by Branagh.

I was thinking you meant Don who is plenty quirky, but of course you meant Rian.

I love whodunnits but Craig's accent is totally throwing me off here and Im not sure I can get around that. Love the rest of the cast though.

Rian Johnson made a teen drama where all the characters talk like they are in a noir novel. Not quirky?

oh my bad. didn't realize. yes it was and i love that movie with Ruffalo and Brody. for some reason i saw Looper and TLJ and didn't think quirk, (Brick kinda quirky, but excellent modern noir with Levitt), but love his older stuff too...

This looks entertaining to me. A cross between "Clue" and "Murder by Death". And a great cast. Might catch it during a matinee. Not sure it's worth full price. Or maybe wait until cable.
