BLAZE is inspired by the life of Blaze Foley, the unsung songwriting legend of the Texas outlaw music movement that spawned the likes of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. The film weaves together three different periods of time, braiding re-imagined versions of Blaze’s past, present and future. The different strands explore his love affair with Sybil Rosen; his last, dark night on earth; and the impact of his songs and his death had on his fans, friends, and foes. The braided storyline terminates in a bittersweet ending that acknowledges Blaze's profound highs and lows, as well as the impressions he made on the people who shared his journey.

Opening in Austin, Texas August 17th

Directed by: Ethan Hawke

Saw this last night. I enjoyed it. Not a whole lot to say about it... performances were all very good, especially Ben Dickey. The film plays a lot with non-linear storytelling, which can get a little confusing, but it's all wrapped around a performance that he was recording at some dive bar closer to the end of his life. Maybe the internet sleuths know, but... is that accurate? Meaning... is there a copy of that recording out there to actually listen to? In the movie, there's parts where it gets interrupted by hecklers and some guy on the payphone. It would be really interesting to hear the original if it's something that actually exists.

edit: Shit, this might be the one:
