Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
‘Supergirl’ Movie On Drawing Board For Warner Bros/DC; Oren Uziel Scripting
https://deadline.com/2018/08/supergi...an-1202440687/
And can a mod add -- News & Rumor to the end of the thread title?
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros and DC are developing a feature film based around Supergirl, the heroine and cousin of Superman. Oren Uziel is working on the script, I’ve confirmed. Not a lot more is being divulged at this point, and it comes as a surprise considering most internet chatter has been based on what will next happen for Superman, who after the 2013 film Man of Steel, was conscripted to become key to the plots of Batman V Superman, and more recently Justice League.
It is unclear whether Superman will appear in this but if the rumors are true that Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are looking to create a new template for future Superman movies, this would seem a likely place to hatch a new persona.

Well, if you have to, you could kind of consider "Batman v. Superman" the sequel to Man of Steel.
In case you don't know who Oren Uziel is, his biggest credits are 22 Jump Street and the widely panned The Cloverfield Paradox.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3349927/
and he's also writing the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

I don't really consider BvS anything at all.

I forget, wasn't there another pod or something shown in one of the movies? Wouldn't mind using that as a jumping off point to introduce Kara, but I'd love it if Cavill was involved rather then another "standalone" type of thing.

Seems like an odd move. She has a tv show that seems to be doing fine, but this will be completely unrelated. She's a spin off of a character that they don't seem confident can carry a movie by himself. Her last movie way back when bombed (for other reasons, and I still liked it).
I mean, I like Supergirl, just seems like an odd decision. But they should just go all out and have her join the Legion.

Flash has tie ins to JL, though. This is like an entirely new franchise starting from scratch. Like if they started work on a Green Arrow movie and he wasn't going to join the JL at all.
It is a little weird to me that with so many years of being so protective of their IP that the "Bat-embargo" was a thing, that they just have all these different things going on. Teen Titans Go, Young Justice, Teen Titans live action (and the other stuff like Doom Patrol), Justice League Action (probably defunct), DC animated movies, Gotham, the WB universe, the cinematic universe, etc.

I suspect this will languish in development hell for years and years. As you can see with the Flash project, Warner likes having a bunch of movies in perpetual development on hand. This only gets greenlit if projects like Birds of Prey (coming 2019-2020) and Wonder Woman 2 are box office winners.
Knowing the movie division, I shudder to think how they will reinvent the character after Supergirl's show has done a fairly straight take on the character for the past few years.

I think it's safe to say by now that whatever is happening in the TV universe has no bearing on what they want to do for the movies. As someone who doesn't watch those shows anyway, i'm fine with it
I get the feeling all the studios are taking more stabs at the female driven superhero movies, so it's actually not too big of a surprise to me that they would explore this.

Supergirl movie is redundant, as is Flash. The CW has done an adequate job covering DC's butts on this account.

I doubt that any of that is used in a Supergirl movie though.

This is beyond a joke now. Announce like 2 dozen projects, cancel most of them a year or two later, rest are in limbo hell ... and keep announcing more projects while you can't even get your main characters right.
You know what I want. CW Batman. Could care less about their film division anymore.

Can WB announce a film that isn't a) about villains or b) a rehash of a successful CW DC show? Does DC only have seven heroes?

There are so SO many DC characters that could potentially make awesome franchises IF done well. If you're familiar with the Timmverse the animated series of shows starting with Batman the Animated Series and ending with Justice League Unlimited you know they can take obscure characters like the Question and with good writing make him very intriguing.

They couldn't have announced this at SDCC?
I didn't really like Man of Steel, so I'd be fine with Supergirl replacing Man of Steel 2. Aquman and Shazam! should do well, so should Supergirl.
