For the past few years, it seems there have been a string of "it was ok, nothing amazing , won't rewatch" type of comedies

E.g. this year

Life of the Party
i feel pretty
Game night
Super Troopers 2

last year

Daddys home 2
fist fight
bad moms
Chips
Snatched

etc etc

When was the last truly highly rated universally adult comedy ? and not a niche one liked by 100 people, one with over a hundred thousand imdb votes (ok make it 50000) and not a family comedy

For me, i can't recall a film which meets this criteria since the Hangover and that was 2009, 9 years ago

I haven't seen all of the ones you listed.
The ones I have seen were really funny IMO: Game Night and Bad Moms.
ST2, Cocksters, and Life of the Party are in my queue.

Daddy's Home 1 & 2 were both great and actually some of the few movies I've re-watched not once but several times and I'm the type of person that doesn't re-watch things almost ever. So much so that my 5 year old says when something is on TV that she knows I've seen before "Daddy I thought you don't watch anything you've already seen before".

Can't really think of an adult comedy I liked better than the first Daddy's Home since Grandma's Boy.

I absolutely loved Sorry to Bother You though.

Also, Game Night was vastly superior to the others listed for this year.

I haven't seen most of the ones mentioned but the last one that came to mind for me is the first Horrible Bosses.

I loved the Daddy's Home movies and bought them for my permanent Father's Day library.

Game Night was fun, but nothing special.

Wife and I tried to watch I Feel Pretty, and she said, "Turn it off, I'm done with it" about halfway through.

The Ted movies are flat out great.

When I think ”adult comedy” I think of Annie Hall. Almost everything in this thread is pure shit.
