I really hope Italian version isn’t fucked up with subs. This obviously can’t be made in states anytime soon (DC), I mean cause of that stupid Apple exclusivity for however long. Do we know how long rights given for that cut? But I really want to see DC before theatrical which I have digitally and dying to see...

I know, but states usually do multiple language with subs. Just wondering if someone knows Italian Blus and perhaps history if they usually include correct English subs...

Considering A24 says "something special" is in the works, I'll wait it out. Hopefully it'll be a 4K release with both cuts.

Wow, what a crazy f'n flick. I did not expect this at all - especially after hearing about it being a break up flick - lol, this movie was just so damn good. Aster is 2 for 2 with me.
I was actually spooked a little while watching this, something that hasn't happened to me in a while.

If any of you are friends with me on The Simpsons: Tapped Out, I created a Midsommar section of my Springfield on the far right-hand side. It's Duff Gardens meets Midsommar. My wife recognized what I did instantly and laughed her tail off.

Same here. Half hour too long and pretty much everything I expected to happen did. You can see what is going to happen a mile away and killed all the tension for me. I didn't like The Witch or Heredity that everyone else raved about either so...

Re: Midsommar (2019, D: Ari Aster) -- S: Pugh, Poulter, Reynor, Harper
After being sat on the virtual shelf for a while i got round to watching the Directors Cut of this last night.
Holy shit.
What a truly awful movie. The positives: Nicely filmed, score is uneasy and sets a tone. Negatives: Literally everything else.
This movie is a classic example of not living up to the hype. Everyone i have spoken to has said how much they love this movie, but i just don't get it. It feels very much an amalgamation of the original Wicker Man, with dreamlike aspects taken from Donnie Darko (and some of the stilted acting from this as well, but i get thats intentional), with large dashings of Lynch and Jodorowsky influences for good measure. All that should combine into something great, but it was just an absolute yawnfest that was predictable from the get go. Even the regular version of this movie clocks in at around two and a half hours, if ever there was a movie that could be taken back to an editing room and have vast amounts cut out with no difference to the story, this is it.
Having said all that, i do greatly appreciate someone trying to produce something original, even if it draws great inspiration from other places. I think Ari Aster is a fine director, but just not sure how strong his own material is. I am due to watch Hereditary this week, so see if thats any better. I am still curious to see what he has planned next as he has a good eye and he has produced something that is like a visually majestic cake that has zero taste to it.

This and Hereditary have some of the same flaws, I guess it's an issue with a writer / director and I would guess editing done by the same person, as you mention, it can be tightened up quite a bit, and both movies kind of go off the rails in the last third, so they needed another pass script wise to maintain a more consistent tone.

Watched this on Prime. Quite loved it. Beautifully shot. I just loved the world the film creates for this cult. Felt very organic. Loved how the film just takes its time with the things that unfold.
Bought it on iTunes to watch the DC. Curious what the differences are.

Just watched it this morning also. I echo your thoughts. A 5 star movie in my eyes.

One of my favorites of the year.
I really hope the Director Cut streams on one of the platforms at some point, meaning Amazon, Netflix or Hulu etc.
I think I can only watch ITunes stuff on my laptop.

I rented this last week (two days before it hit Prime, natch) and enjoyed it. I was expecting it to be straight up horror (it wasn't), but it was still well made and mostly effective. One of my quibbles was that I'd think even anthropology grad students would have a reaction greater than a "well, that's their culture" shrug to some of the horrors unfolding in front of them. The two folks from London had the most realistic reactions, IMO.
That devilishly satisfied smile Dani gives at the end made me ask myself, "am I supposed to celebrate her choice?!" After pretty much every movie I find really interesting I watch a bunch of YouTube videos/reviews bout it and read lots of online think pieces. I was kinda troubled to see that some people find this movie empowering. That's messed up.
I pretty much agree with this take from one of the pieces I read:

I still have yet to see Hereditary, but will rectify that soon.
