Boba: A Star Wars Story
http://www.superherohype.com/news/30...star-wars-film
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.
"We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”
Trank states, "The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."
Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.

I'm happy about how forthright they are being about these announcements. And how far in advance they are planning.

Yeah, will they bother to announce a spin-off director now for a 2020 film?
I'm sure they have decided what the first two spin-offs will be about and are still planning out the third.

I'm hoping it's not a Solo movie. I'd rather see an Obi Wan stand-alone film with McGregor than a Solo film.

As long as The Rock is in it, I'll be happy.

Anyone else have close to zero interest in these standalones? If they introduced new characters or were set in a different time it might be interesting but seeing stand alone Bobba Fett and Yoda movies just seems so dull. Unless Yoda is like 100

Yeah I agree, especially after getting butt hurt by Eps 1-3. If the creator of the OT cannot make good movies with characters we know, plus plot points and characters we have all heard about, I have zero interest in these spinoffs and still am approaching Ep 7 with caution.

I'm kind of getting over expanded universes, multi-movie arcs and planning things out to 2026 or so in general. There's good movies out there but planning 4-5 movies out without making sure you've got good solid stories to tell first (HELLO AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 I AM LOOKING AT YOU) seems a recipe for overload and burnout.

This. McGregor has said he'd come back to play Obi-Wan again, and he was by far the best part of the PT. If I were a Disney exec, an Obi-Wan standalone film would be a complete no-brainer.

I know. Point is the person that created the universe and characters that many of us grew up to love could not capture lightening in a bottle 15 or so years after Jedi. I have 0 expectations and no interest in anyone including JJ taking another stab at the universe. I really, really hope I am wrong however I fear JJ and others will not be able to resist modern filming techniques. Anything other then Lucas's boring static camera will take me out of it.
Funny, maybe but the point where I lost all faith in the prequels was during Attack of the Clones when Lucas used these super fast zoom in shots on clone troopers. It was at that point I had given up and accepted just how shitty those films were.

Just because someone creates something at one point in their life doesn't mean they will automatically be the best choice to continue telling that story later in their life. Lucas' priorities shifted since the release of the OT, both as a businessman and a storyteller. His failure to make good follow up films does not mean that good Star Wars films are impossible to make.
