re: Boba: A Star Wars Story
I remember when I first heard that Disney acquired the rights I wished that they would somewhat adapt that one book trilogy by Timothy Zahn...I think it was called Dark Empire...It involved Grand Admiral Thrawn and was actually pretty compelling...That said, I think I read those books in Junior High so maybe they haven't aged well, but I much preferred what happened to Luke and Leia and Han in that series of books than what happened to them in this new trilogy...I won't spoil those books for anyone but the way they developed those key characters was pretty neat...

Re: Boba: A Star Wars Story (Mangold)
Look, back in the day kids debated whether Boba Fett or Darth Vader was cooler. And Darth Vader was huge. You're underestimating the impact Boba Fett had. He was featured as a major villain in pretty much every Star Wars tie-in ever: video games, comics, books, toothbrushes, bed sheets, whatever. I mean, the entire reason the prequels feature the character of Jango Fett is only because he's Boba Fett's "father," and Lucas went unnecessarily out of his way to tie the creation of the Republic clone army—i.e., pretty much the entire plot of Attack of the Clones—to Boba Fett's father.

Maybe we should start a pool for when Kathleen Kennedy shitcans James Mangold over "creative differences."

I don't see this doing well. Boba Fett's popularity has always been overstated and I lived through it. Yes, everybody wanted his toy after the Holiday special and he was one of the cooler characters in ESB which made him even more popular. However, Return of the Jedi ruined him a bit and the prequels didn't do his character any favors. Certainly was never at the level of Vader.

Part of what made Boba Fett cool in ESB was he was silent, menacing and very good at his job. The prequels and cloning and Jango Fett and kid Boba was all kinds of stupid. If you wanted to shoehorn in a reference to Boba Fett just have mandalorian guards posted at the cloning planet instead.
New movie could be cool if its a bounty hunting movie with IG-88, Bossk, etc.

Boba was never more cool than in the Holiday Special cartoon.
In that, he had just enough character (not just visually, but through dialogue) and just enough of an arc (going from helping save Luke and 3PO to being revealed as a sinister betrayer) to fuel kid's imaginations for the next year and a half.
Plus he had a great design.
He was cool in ESB, but it also felt like they left so much more on the table with him.
By RoTJ, his story function was completely over and having him in Jabba's palace completely changed the character from specialist & independent free agent to generic hanger-on thug, and removed a major element of his appeal (for me).
Also like most of the lingering plot threads from the first two films, he was perfunctorily dispatched in Jedi like a complete bitch.

Boba Fett is cool but I don’t think he needs his own film. Just put him in one of the sequels to Solo and give him a bit more to do than just standing around looking cool.

The filmmakers keep dry-humping the bones of the past. Like Wyclef Jean and his limp fucking hard-on for Bob Marley.
Establish NEW characters that can evolve into fan favorites and develop them maybe. I dunno. I'm rapidly getting bored with Star Wars.

Another Star Wars thread that devolved into a Hate Star Wars discussion. I'm shocked.
You guys who are "tired/bored/whatever the fuck it is" with the franchise need to move on from these threads. It's getting old.
That being said, here's a movie I won't be rushing to see on opening night. If at all. Gimme Obi-Wan before this overrated character.

You mean like Rey, Kylo, Finn, Poe and yes, Rose? Or do those not count because you don't like 'em? I dunno.

Could not possibly care less about Boba Fett. I'm old enough to have seen all the movies theatrically and never understood the love for this character.

re: Boba: A Star Wars Story
I thought Solo and Rogue One both did the backstory/prequel thing pretty darn well. Hopefully Boba will erase the bad taste left by ROTJ and AOTC and redeem the character a bit.
I'm even ready for more one-off backstory adventures and it looks like Disney is going to come through. Give me Obi-wan as a nomad, Leia becoming a rebel spy, Lando (battle of Tanaab?), more Han smuggling stuff, etc.
I'm too old to get pissed off by this stuff anymore. I want good, fun movies that I can enjoy with my son. Other than some of TLJ (which I still really liked), Disney is delivering in spades so far with both SW and Marvel.
