I thought it was great. I give it an F-.
The coda did bring a tear to my eye. It was silent in the theater after that.

This may be a dumb question ... either the editing was awkward or I completely zoned out for a second ... did the three guys in the car

If so, I completely missed that aspect and wondered what the
was about.
I thought the messaging was a bit conflicting and neutered at times. Lee did a masterful job showing “both sides” having essentially the same conversations, either through simultaneous intercutting or through echoes in the film.
I’d love to see a documentary on the true story.
As noted, the acting was pretty good save for a few conscious decisions to make a few characters into caracitures. Then again, Sam Rockwell won an Oscar for playing the exact same role.

Everyone should see this movie. It’s one of those movies with no wasted screen time.
I read this thread and was expecting a more heartbreaking end to the main story. It was the tacked on ending that could leave you upset.
I have to wonder how offended Trump supporters were by that end. The America First comparison was spot on. There no defense for that.

Boots Riley, director of Sorry to Bother You, didn't like this movie and goes into detail as to why.

Caught this today. Really liked it and think as many people should see it as possible, especially young people who can vote.

Or skip it ... I'd be interested in what he has to say, but that is borderline unreadable. Granted, I only saw the first page.

Summarized: He was basically arguing that the actual infiltration of white supremacists groups was never about shutting them down, but steering them to push back against other radical movements and that the movie felt like an extension of the police unity campaign Lee was paid $200k to promote.
Both are solid movies in my book.

Caught a matinee of this today. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Spike Lee's movies. I like a few of them, but can't say I go out of my way to see them.
I did see the heavy promotion and hype surrounding this and a few of my colleagues saw it and liked it, so I decided to see it today.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It's not a subject matter that particularly interests me, but it was a very well made period piece with mostly dram and little bits of humor sprinkled in. The whole Ron Stallworth white supremacist gag was amusing. JD Washington was pretty good as the lead. Nice change of pace from the douchebag he plays on Ballers. I'm not a huge Adam Driver fan, but he was good here and he had good comradery with the cast and JD.
The Alec Baldwin appearance in the opening from 1957 didn't add anything for me personally. It could have easily been edited out.
Strong message, good performances, good set designs and costumes. B+ overall. Kind of a unpleasant epilogue at the end showing visuals from Charlottesville and the car accident at that demonstration.
I have no interest in seeing this again. It was a good 1 and done watch.

Just got back from using my AMC Stubs A-List for the first time. I really liked it. I knew there was a coda from poking around here but didn't know what it would be. Wow, didn't see that coming.
I liked this movie quite a bit. When it was over, a trio of young black men in the row in front me asked me what I thought of the movie. We spoke about last Lee Joints and we all appreciated the ending.

^ They're from Kino, so I wouldn't hold my breath on adequate transfers. Now if you scored those double feature BD's from a couple of years ago then you made out well, because they're now out of print.

I really liked this movie and will likely watch it again at some point. This is where I am torn though — I like to support films I enjoy, but these days I have a hard time justifying buying things if I won’t watch more than once.
I used to view my “collection” as a statement of who I am. Now I view it a little more practically.
