Re: Avengers: Infinity War (Russo Bros., 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I loved it but don't think a film with that ending has a chance of coming close to the Force Awakens (or even Black Panther's) box office which before seeing it I didn't think was impossible. I was fully aware of and anticipated the snap but seeing it on film is pretty bleak in the moment. Can't wait to see it again. I think it may top the original Avengers as my favorite event film so far.

RDJ and Chris Evans were always under contract for Avengers 3 and 4. Killing off either one of them in Infinity War only to bring them back in Avengers 4 is dumb and loses it’s impact. This is especially true since Steve Rogers didn’t have a lot of screen time or much to do in this movie. It would be bullshit if one of the top 2 favorites checked out with a whimper.

I agree somewhat. But I don't know... I think Gregg could appear in Avengers 4.

Every time I see that last word it reminds me of this

I agree with you too, but it's wishful thinking in my part that these TV characters deserve to be playing with the big boys in the films. Especially the Netflix team, who in the past 15 years, were a big part of the Avengers team.

Hulk will come out at some pivotal moment in Avengers 4 and they payoff will make the audience go crazy. Storytelling 101.

Not having Hulk at the end battle was the perfect decision. If you want mindless mayhem then Avengers 1 and 2 gave you that. It was announced that Thor Ragnarok was film one of a three film arc for the Hulk. The changes made in Thor and now Infinity War were very good.

I'm going to compare this movie to Suicide Squad. It will be divisive... and it will do better at the box office than it should.

I don't think it's anything like Suicide Squad in either of those aspects. And how "should" it do at the Box Office?

So looking ahead to A4... I'm under the assumption that Shuri and Vision will have a big part in resurrecting or undoing some of what Thanos did. And maybe Thanos' obsession with Death in the comics shifts to Gamora.

Sure, compare it to that. Hell, compare it to Justice League. Neither DCU film comes remotely close to the level of epic this movie has. And better than it should? So what should it make?

Speaking of Vision, he sure was a wimp in this movie.

Asinine comparison considering Suicide Squad was universally panned by comic book fans and non comic book fans alike. It’s currently at 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.

That was my point. For a movie no one liked, it made a hell of a lot of money.

Yeah, sometimes shit movies do make a lot of money. Doesn't mean they're any good.

Despite some shock regarding the ending of the movie, I don't see how it's anywhere near as divisive as Suicide Squad. People aren't coming out of this hating it.

Yea... I don't think it will be divisive. People are going to be talking about the ending though. There is a just a lot to take in. I don't think that the entire population knows that there is another movie coming out in a year. The theatre was so quiet when it ended. Very interesting.

As a DC nut, suicide squad conversation has no place in this thread.

Some moments that got big reactions:

Cap's first appearance
Cap indirectly saying they are going to Wakanda
Cap and Groot dialogue
Thor showing up with the storm breaker.

A teenage girl was crying behind me when Spiderman faded. There were lots of Spidey fans there.

And let me say, Brolin acted his ass of in this. Best villain since Loki in MCU.

I forgot to mention -- and of course they kill a black guy first - even in a MCU film.

I heard he didn't care for it, but I thought he did the voice. Red Skull and the production design were the only things I liked about First Avenger and I hated that they squandered Red Skull, so it was cool to see what had happened to him here.

--Thanos's henchmen were pretty bland and not very memorable (cannon fodder) except for the tall, skinny dude--didn't catch his name--who provided some nice conflicts for the Avengers in the first half of the film.
I thought they were neat and I really liked their character designs. Corvus looked like the goblin from Legend. I thought Proxima Midnight was sexy even with the horns formed underneath her eyes.
