RIP Milos Forman (One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, People Vs. Larry Flynt)

I’ve always loved his films, and his resurgence in the late 90s with Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon was pretty awesome.
He was 86.i didn’t realize his parents died in the Holocaust.

Throughout the movie, Mozart has an infectious cackle—it comes out just as often when he’s giddy as when he’s uncomfortable. Though there are dubious historical reports that the real Mozart had such an obnoxious laugh, Hulce created the giggle after Forman asked him to come up with "something extreme." "I've never been able to make that sound except in front of a camera," Hulce later said. "When we did the looping nine months later, I couldn't find the laugh. I had to raid the producer's private bar and have a shot of whiskey to jar myself into it."
Amadeus, Amadeus, oh, oh, oh Amadeus.

A small but outstanding filmography. And two Best Director Oscars.

His best films are Amadeus and The Firemen's Ball (which weirdly enough I was just thinking about yesterday for the first time in years).

The People vs. Larry Flynt is one of those movies that was made 10x better than it should have been because of the director. *
*Harrelson gave an Oscar worthy performance as well.

This one hurts. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus alone puts him in the higher echelons of filmdom as far as I'm concerned. And as stated earlier on this thread his output in the 90s with the two Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander penned biopics, The People vs Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon (which is highly underrated) just sweeten the deal.

I've never seen Amadeus but love Cuckoo's Nest, Man on the Moon, and People vs Larry Flint. All three are on my list of 100 some odd blurays left to buy. Think I'll head out to FYE, see if they have any of those used and if check out Amadeus finally too.

It is one of his lesser works, but as a kid I kinda dug his adaptation of Hair as well. I've never seen the stage version.

Valmont and Ragtime are underrated. Really a near flawless filmography. Respect the Kubrickian project selectivity.

Although I do prefer the theatrical cut to the director's cut (which is good, but hurts the timing of the movie with some of the additional scenes that would've been better as just "Deleted Scenes" separate from the movie)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is classic. I should really upgrade my DVD and get it on Blu-ray. I also think Man on the Moon is great and one of Jim Carrey’s best performances of his career.

This is me just being a steely-eyed pragmatist, but do you think this will create the impetus for Universal to release a Man on the Moon Blu ray?

My personal top 10 favorite films list has shifted at least every year or three since I started watching movies seriously in my early teens, but Amadeus has resided in the #1 slot without interruption for more than 30 years. God bless you, Milos.

Amadeus is one of the few Best Picture Oscar winners that I agree with.

The theatrical cut of Amadeus was on the original DVD release from the late-'90s, long out-of-print and with poor early DVD image quality, but I don't think it's on any later release of the film as it switched to the Director's Cut only. A bit of a disappointment because now people can't see the version of the movie that won Best Picture.

Prior to Amadeus I had never really paid attention to classical music.
That all changed after watching the movie in late 1983.
Ever since, I have been a geek and collected thousands of CDs...all because of Milos Forman's Amadeus.
BTW, for those who do not know, the personality of the real Mozart was nothing at all like the movie version.
