Renée Zellweger Is Unrecognizable as Judy Garland in First Look from Upcoming Biopic
Comparison photos:
She looks good but the proof will be in the trailer. I wonder if this will be positioned as Oscar bait.
Renée Zellweger is known for her ability to shape-shift for different roles, but her latest transformation is worth a double-take.
A first look photo from Judy, a biopic about Judy Garland, shows the actress completely transformed into the screen legend.
In the shot, Zellweger channels the Wizard of Oz star and renowned singer in a black dress with floral details and dark locks. Zellweger — who won an Oscar for her work in Cold Mountain — gazes upwards as she sings into a microphone.
According to Variety, the biopic by Pathé and Calamity Films will follow Garland’s final sold-out concerts in London in 1968, despite her exhaustion and deteriorating health. The movie, based on a script written by The Crown‘s Tom Edge, will also focus on Garland’s management problems and her various relationships, Variety reported.
Production of the film is currently underway in London.

Yeah I saw that image and was totally "wow'd". Didn't even know this was in the works. I love Renee and I'm hoping she kills it.

This was the first I had heard of it, too. I wonder if her kids were involved or had to okay it. I imagine we'll find out as production progresses.

Only Oscar worthy if they include scenes of those drunken rants she did into a tape recorder for the biography she was "helping" write.
I remember hearing them on the Stern show and boy was she a). Out of it, and b). Hate filled for her ex husband.

Looks good. I don't know anything about Judy Garland, but love Zellweger.

Every interview I've seen of Garland from The '60s, she was a twitchy, incoherent mess, and frankly uncomfortable to watch. I'm not crazy about biographies in general, because of their tendency to invent large portions of the story. I tend to see movies like this as "Oscar bait".

Zellweger was good, but I thought the movie was kind of dull. Some scenes felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie.
To me, it was similar to Ollie and Stan.

I liked the songs, but Zellweger's performance was twitchy and weird. I'm sure that was intentional because of how Garland was at the end, but knowing that doesn't make it less twitchy and weird.
When Lonnie Donegan shows up, all I could think of was when Letterman called Jimmy Fallon that during the whole Jay-Conan kerfuffle.

Zellweger gave a great performance obviously but I was expecting a great movie and not a average or ok movie.
Maybe I thought it would be the complete story about her life and career and not just one part of her life near the end.

Redboxed this. Rene Z was great as Garland, but it's more of a paraphrasing of her life. You see her childhood and how fucked up it was personally and professionally in flashbacks. This needed a longer running time and less meandering and more focus. Anyways, glad it was only a rental.
