I also watch the Oscars live every year been doing it so since I was a kid, I used to watch it with my parents. Nowadays its my wife and I tradition, its our Superbowl. We used to have pizza and wings or cooked something extra special, sometimes even watching it on a projector.
Its also cool watching all these more independent films that without the award nomination I probably wouldn't seek out or hear about it by myself

Let's not lose our mind over this. I like it better as well, but unlike many previous winners, at least Remember Me is a decent song and prominently featured in the movie. Not just a pop song included to get airplay on Radio Disney, it's very much part of the story here. Not my favorite song but a totally defensible choice.

The Lonely Island claim to have been asked to write a song for the 2018 Oscars, but when they presented the proposed performance, they were told it would be “financially and logistically impossible” to put on. Now, they’re sharing a storyboard of what they had in mind.
A demo of the new song, “Why Not Me?,” was uploaded to YouTube along with accompanying visuals. The song would have supposedly been performed by actors who weren’t nominated for an Oscar this year. At one point, Thor and Wonder Woman sing: “We both face death it’s true/ But at least Lady Bird got into NYU…”
Here’s what the Lonely Island have to say about the song:
Hey everyone,
We were asked to write a song for this year’s Oscars … Unfortunately, it wasn’t chosen because it was “financiall and logistically impossible,” so for fun we thought we’d share the rough storyboards of what would have been a fully shot, star-studded music video of exorbitant cost.
All vocals and visuals are temp, so please use your imagination and enjoy!

Second year in a row I did not watch the Oscars, after 40 years of not missing a show. The ceremony starting going downhill once they went from celebrating films to celebrating celebrities. The final nail in the coffin is when they did away with the honorary Oscar during the telecast.

My wife asked me if J-Law is really tall or Foster is really short.

Really wasn't feeling it this year, but was happy that Oldman and Del Toro won Oscars.
And yeah, next year bring on John Oliver as host, he would be great!

Right. That's how most of my friends are - Best Picture, Best Director, and the four acting categories. And a lot of people aren't going to spend 4 hours waiting to see those categories revealed when they're surrounded by skits, politics, songs, and categories like Best Sound Mixing and Best Live Action Short. You can just wake up the next morning and watch the 6 speeches you cared about, saving 3.5 hours of your time.

Same here. I couldn't have said it better myself. Also, the political stuff is another reason I quit watching. If a celebrity doesn't like Trump, they need to go on Meet the Press or Face the Nation and leave that kind off stuff off award shows. Make it more about the movies and I will tune back in.

Yeah, this year was unusually devoid of that, well, mostly. I think they got sick of it too

On another Oscar related note, I was watching the opening monologue from 1980, and it was 100% a static shot of Johnny Carson with no reaction shots from the audience whatsoever. What that not invented yet or what?

I think it’s the lowest rated in 9 years. I had forgotten it was on. I’ll pass on the #metoo bullshit hypocrisy and the “let them win because they are black or women” bullshit”. I love how the left wants AR’s banned yet they approve of military holding AR’s outside of their precious little self congratulating show.

true but nothing like throwing shade on the best directors for others fuck ups.
or the countless times people kept kissing harveys ass when the rumors of his shit were all there.
or the general hypocrisy of best pictures for movies no one really sees. How is that a general best picture when no one sees it.
or the pedo issues plaguing the industry yet still people throw a blind eye.
they all had the platform but its all about the flavor of the month.
