High Wire Act (W: Tony Gilroy, D: Brad Anderson) S: Jon Hamm, Rosemund Pike
Radar Pictures has tapped “Gone Girl” actress Rosamund Pike to star opposite Jon Hamm in Tony Gilroy’s political action thriller “High Wire Act.”
Brad Anderson is directing the movie, which Mike Weber is producing with partner Ted Field and Gilroy. Good Universe is handling international sales.
Set in 1980s Beirut, Hamm plays a former U.S. diplomat who is called back into service to save a former colleague from the group possibly responsible for his own family’s death. Pike plays a CIA field agent working undercover at the American embassy who’s tasked with keeping Mason alive and ensuring the mission is a success.
Pike’s upcoming projects include Pathe’s “A United Kingdom” and Legende Films’ “HHHH” with Echo Lake financing and FilmNation handling international sales.
Pike was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for “Gone Girl.” She is represented by CAA, United Agents and Magnolia Entertainment.

Hopefully this is a return to form for Anderson. Although I have not seen Stonehearst Asylum.

A U.S. diplomat (Jon Hamm) flees Lebanon in 1972 after a tragic incident at his home. Ten years later, he is called back to war-torn Beirut by a CIA operative (Rosamund Pike) to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind.

I hope this turn out good. John Hamm could use a starring role in a quality film. And I love me some Rosamund Pike.

Caught this today. Oh boy, what a snoozer. Zero character development, horrid pacing, weak direction (and I like Anderson), even Gilroy's script felt underbaked. Hamm was fine but not a damn thing about this film is memorable.
For one example, the entire film is predicated on Hamm's character returning to Beirut - a place he has NO interest in seeing again - to save a friend we got to see him interact with for MAYBE 3 minutes in the opening. Yea, way to sell that bond.

The point that I/C makes about not setting up the relationship is valid, however Hamm acts the hell out of this movie. Overall, I thought that the movie was time well spent and I will enjoy re-watching it again. This felt like a serious acting role for Hamm, and not some of the fluff that's come out with his name (e.g. Keeping Up With The Joneses).

I bought it on digital a while back and finally watched it last week. It’s an excellent film, and doesn’t get trapped in the cliches most films of this kid get trapped in. I think he plays much better in this type of serious role rather than Keeping Up with the Jonses. And while this was a better screenplay than Syriana IMO, it still almost had some confusing moments. And I’ve pretty much all of Brad Anderson’s stuff so far. This was another good addition to his directing credits.

This is on PRIME, so I watched this morning. I thought it was pretty cool. Hamm, as mentioned, acted the shit out of it. I've always been a fan of Brad Anderson's work - he's a very versatile director weaving in and out of dramas and horror films seamlessly.

I enjoyed it too. Hamm could be another George Clooney if he picks the right roles.

Excellent intelligent thriller.
Not a non-fiction story, but a lot elements are taken from history:

Good acting, especially Hamm who really shows some chops.

Spoiler:
He's also got some great comedic chops. You should watch him in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - he's hysterical in that.
