At 29% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yikes.

Tom Hanks sure does pick some questionable projects these days.

Watching Dan Murrell’s review now. He doesn’t seem impressed. Too bad as I thought it looked good visually.

A lot of his movie choices these days seem to be based on just working with directors he has a good relationship with. I would doubt Hanks is in this movie if Zemeckis wasn’t directing.

The trailer for this popped up on TV while I was getting ready for work. It was my first time seeing it, and this was my impression, too. Were they wanting it to look exactly like the cartoon Pinocchio transplanted into the real work or was it supposed to look like a real puppet come to life? Because that doesn't look like real at all - not as a puppet or boy.

Re: Disney's Pinocchio - Live Action (2022, D: Zemeckis) S: Tom Hanks

It has been a long time since I've seen the original. Watched this one in 4K DV.

The good:
1) The blending of CGI and live-action looks good.
2) The cuckoo clocks. Name all the Disney movies represented in each clock. The Snow White one was funny.
3) Blue Fairy animation
4) Luminance inside Monstro looked cool.

The bad:
1) Didn't care for the songs.
2) Didn't really care for a lot of the voice work.
3) Hanks miscast
4) Movie feels flat overall. Soulless.
5) It's apparent a lot of effort went into making this. But I'm even more looking forward to Guillermo del Toro's version now.
6) Changing Monstro from a whale to a sea monster with tentacles?
7) Eliminated scene of his becoming a real boy.

I don't have little kids anymore but I'd be curious their reaction. Cliff Edwards' version of When You Wish Upon a Star had such longing in his voice. Cynthia Ervino has a lovely almost too perfect voice when she sings it. Kinda encompasses this version vs original.

I thought this was just ok but soulless is probably a perfect way to describe it. Visually entertaining but lacking any sort of emotional connection.

Watched this with our niece and nephew and they really enjoyed it, and they are usually pretty fidgety and lose interest in most movies we try to watch with them, Wife and I enjoyed it as well.

He needs to give the goofy accents a rest: Sully, Elvis and this are nearly comical in how bad he is.

And he looks like a bad cheap cosplayer in this and Elvis.

"People say he was transformed into an honest to goodness real boy. Did that actually happen? Who knows? But I do know one thing for sure: the Disney executives want to keep things open-ended to explore potential sequel options."

I enjoyed this more than most of these Disney remakes and kept my kids interest. Didn't really like Hanks in this but never really liked that character in general.

If you look close at the end while the cricket is monologuing about whether Pinocchio became a real boy or not........you can see Pinocchio's legs transform to human legs as he walks away with Hanks.

This.

Since the last shot is literally a zoom-in on his legs, it's very apparent he became real.

Re: Disney's Pinocchio - Live Action (2022, D: Zemeckis) S: Tom Hanks

I admittedly stopped watching at that point. I went back and watched the end. Yeah, it wasn't done as dramatic as the original. I guess the blue glowing light represented the Blue Fairy. It would've been a good time for the Blue Fairy to make another appearance. Kinda seemed like a cop-out. He slowly turns real starting with his legs. You lose the celebration that was great in the original.

Re: Disney's Pinocchio - Live Action (2022, D: Zemeckis) S: Tom Hanks

THIS. WAS. ABOMINABLE.

On almost every conceivable level, this film was an abject failure. Horrifically bad. And given the talent involved (Hanks, Zemeckis, Disney, etc.) and the money sunk into this production, they couldn't have made a worse movie.

More odious than Pol Pot.

3 out of 10.

Grace Randolph loved this and was surprised when someone told her that it was mostly disliked.

If only there was a website you could go to, type in a name, and get results on who they are. Someone should make that.

Thats fine but why post a comment with someone’s name in it like we all are supposed to just know who it is.

Grace comes up pretty frequently in threads here, so it's surprising that a regular here has never heard of her. Try doing a search on her name in the DVDTalk search.

I rarely read reviews and I don’t think I’ve ever followed any youtube Reviewers.

Probably have seen her name before but I don’t put much attention to that.
Im more interested in the comments of the members here.

Don’t know who she is. Sorry.

Bernie Finkelbaum thought it was brilliant and kicked his mom in the face when he found out it was soundly poo-poo'ed. Then he soundly poo-poo'ed.
