The link to the artists work is missing. I'll try to find it.

Here's the one for THX. https://io9.gizmodo.com/5981980/youl...s-good-for-you

Keep in mind that's not a photo. It's an ultra detailed drawing.

Dirty Harry here http://www.artbusiness.com/1open/112313.html

These were all hung around the city as part of a film fest or something back in 2013.

There's a nice overhead shot of the freeway next to the Embarcadero Center in the opening credits for The Enforcer.

Yeah, but with only a handful of SF scenes and mostly filmed in HK.

the Embarcadero didnt topple in the earthquake (like 880 did) but it was damaged and closed down. It was then decided that they would remove it instead of repair it.

The top part did topple down on the lower track. There was no way to repair that.

The original Total Recall remains one of my favorite Sci Fi movies.

I know, I'm just typing fast. There was a contingent that never wanted it built in the first place and was happy it was damaged.

Mr. Han, as noted, the above pictures are of the 880. That didn't happen to the Embarcadero Freeway, but it was damaged.

880 is in Oakland. The pics I posted are of the overpass that went over Embarcadero road between where the current Giants stadium is located and goes pass Embarcadero center and Fisherman's Wharf. Embarcardero Rd ran parallel with the freeway above.

Screen grab from the Enforcer. Embarcardo center with the Hyatt Regency hotel behind the overpass. That whole section was all destroyed during the earthquake. It's a huge park park now that separates the one way traffic on either side of Embarcardero Rd.

Street level scene from The Killer Elite. Embarcardero Center is opposite the clock tower and where Market St. starts. The park I mentioned is now where the overpass use to stand before the quake.

Okay Mrhan I will defer to your knowledge. That Enforcer picture is nuts. Is that the transamerica building under construction?

Transamerica building would be to the right of that pic and out of frame. It's closer to Chinatown. It was finished a few years before The Enforcer was filmed.

It was a pretty good murder/action film when it was released and it seems like a lot of it was filmed on location, but it probably hasn't aged well. Mark Harmon did really deserve a better career in film than he had, IMHO.

those are pictures of 880. one of the urls even includes "cypress viaduct", which was part of 880. You can also tell because of all the warehouses in the background.
The embarcadero structural damage was not visually exciting and partially just an excuse to get rid of the freeway.

Re: Favorite SF based movies?

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
Foul Play
Time After Time
Towering Inferno
Bullitt
Star Trek IV

probably in that order

Experiment in Terror seemed to make great use of the area as a backdrop, but I can't say I was overly impressed with the film as a whole the first time I watched it. Great Mancini score, and I do plan to give it a reappraisal this year.

I'm with you, bro. The second one in particular is simply not Downtown SF.

Re: Favorite SF based movies?

Okay, if anything can beat Vertigo it's this one. Turn down the silly soundtrack and watch it with your favorite song.

I cried, I laughed, I marveled. While it's an "actuality" some staging clearly occurred. And it's endearing! The whole bright city putting on a show for the new "movin' picture" contraption. The fact that it was all soon destroyed brings a poignance to the whole thing.

A vanished world. But if you squint hard enough today you'll see the ghosts.

I'm kind of partial to the original Blade Runner myself, although Total Recall was pretty good too.

Re: Favorite SF based movies?

"The Rock" is my favorite film, so I didn't have to think for my answer.
