In Deep Blue Sea 2, shark conservationist Dr. Misty Calhoun (Danielle Savre) is invited to consult on a new, top secret project run by pharmaceutical billionaire Carl Durant (Michael Beach). When science meddles with the time-tested process of nature and nurture, the outcome can be deadly. Straight to video sequel. Coming this summer |
Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
I think SyFy picked it up. I'm sure it will be part of their "Sharknado Week" this summer just like Jeepers Creepers 3 was part of their 31 days of Halloween.

Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
As far as I am concerned the first is a straight up man messes with nature and nature bites back (literally, in this case) classic film. I will see this but hopefully the no name cast has a tiny bit of acting chops because the batch of Sharknado Week films leading into the latest Sharknado film from the past couple of years does not inspire confidence.
I still miss the Syfy originals that would pop up every month or two back in the days (they stopped doing this what, 3-4 years back?). Those films were still usually more miss than hit (or even guilty pleasures, as some were just straight up bad with no redeeming qualities), but at least Syfy mixed it up with films about mutant snakes, bigfoots, cthulhu like tentacle beasts trapped in mountains, mutant spiders, dinocrocs, etc., and it was not just about mutated sharks / shark hybrid creatures. Heck as recent as a few years back they at least mixed up those mutant shark films with a Lavalantula type film or two. |

That scene was amazing in its day. Twenty years later, it's been done a lot. But it was such a surprise back then.
I’m a sucker for shark movies so I’ll probably catch this when it hits Netflix or Amazon. |
Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
I enjoyed the first one.
Probably give it a watch when it streams. |
Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
Looks like a remake of the first one. I thought I heard that this was suppose to be a comedy.

Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
First one was campy fun. Forgettable though and I haven't watched it since the theater. Am sure this will be pretty bad.

Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
A sequel nobody asked for?

Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
I lasted fifteen seconds into that . . .
Direct-to-video sequels to mid-range theatrical have been diluting brands, employing cut-rate talent and sullying memories for ages and this looks to do pretty much the same. I'm sure the trend will continue -- and probably increase -- once these things start going straight-to-streaming or whatever. Collectively, their very existence has justified my not watching any of them. I do wonder, though, if movies like this one actually start out as official sequels, or if they're sometimes just re-titled pickups that share a convenient theme with something that can simultaneously be revived from the back catalog to sell a few more copies. |
Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
Michael Beach is probably the best known actor on this movie and he's at best a C-list star.

Re: Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)
Looks about as cheesy as the original. And I think the best thing about the original movie is Samuel L. Jackson's commentary track in which he just makes fun of the movie. (I just wish he had done commentary for the whole movie instead of only the part he was in.)
