Outlaw Johnny Black (2023) -- W/D/S: Michael Jai White
Black Dynamite 2 Planned As a Western Comedy?
Following the cult success of the 2009 blaxploitation spoof Black Dynamite, work is underway on a sequel with the plan being to switch characters and genres while retaining the original creative team. CraveOnline caught up with leading man and co-writer Michael Jai White on the red carpet to this week's Alex Cross and learned that the current plan is to approach the project as a western.
"We had discussed," says White, "and it looks like we're getting closer to the decision of something that would be an homage to 'Blazing Saddles'. [...] It's a western comedy in that spirit of Blazing Saddles, but you mix that with 'Buck and the Preacher'."

Michael Jai White has such solid comic chops or these films, it makes me wish he'd spend less of his time appearing in B-movies starring other people.

I still haven't seen the first one but need to. I've coincidentally been on a real "Soul Cinema" bender recently, seeing all kinds of Blacksploitation films that I previously missed, and have also been revisiting a few old favs. Some of the better ones I've seen recently were Melinda, Hit Man and Dr. Black/Mr. Hyde. Love dat stuff!

The original Black Dynamite is quite possibly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I don't mind the change to Western (Blazing Saddles is still amazing to me) as long as it stays good. *Fingers crossed*

Well, I still don't love the Western idea but if it'll be spoofing films like Boss ****** then I'm down.
Seeing the first in theaters was one of the funniest experiences of my life.
