<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> “Stan and Ollie” follows the the famous odd couple on their final UK tour, a grueling theatre tour of post-war Britain. As they attempt to reignite their film careers, they unwittingly deliver what would become their swan song. Coogan and Reilly lead a cast that includes Shirley Henderson (“Okja”), Nina Arianda (“Midnight in Paris”), and Danny Huston. “Philomena” scribe Jeff Pope penned the screenplay, and Jon S. Baird directs. “Stan and Ollie” was produced by the BBC. No release date has yet been announced. |

John C Reilly looks identical to Ollie

I was always more Abbott and Costello but I certainly want to see this.

The true story of Hollywood’s greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the legendary movie icons, Stan & Ollie is the heart-warming story of what would become the pair’s triumphant farewell tour. With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) – a formidable double act in their own right - the pair’s love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public. Coming to cinemas January 11 2019. Find out more at www.stanandollie.co.uk |

I'm a big fan, so I'll definitely watch it, but it looks kind of sad. I would have preferred that it encompassed more of their careers.

Fuck that Piaf song, but everything else looks good. Glad to see some of “Cpunty Hospital” will be in this too, as a live performance.

Looks awesome!

Re: Stan and Ollie (2019) -- Laurel & Hardy biopic -- S: Reilly, Coogan
That sounds way more like Wreck It Ralph than Oliver Hardy.
Love me some John C Reilly but that feels like a miscast. |

Looks like this will be expanding to more theatres weekend.

I saw this over the weekend. Great performances from Reilly and Coogan. They just melt into the roles. Awesome makeup job too. The movie, though, overall was pretty sterile.

Re: Stan and Ollie (2019) -- Laurel & Hardy biopic -- S: Reilly, Coogan
I though just watching the two characters and actors interact was fascinating, but yeah the story was pretty meh. It's so rare to see two male characters bond and have an actual friendship

Re: Stan and Ollie (2019) -- Laurel & Hardy biopic -- S: Reilly, Coogan
I liked this movie.
Sad they did not get residuals from all the great work they did and had to do demeaning jobs like judge beauty pageants. Are Laurel and Hardy considered superior to Abbott and Costello among true comedy aficionados? |

Re: Stan and Ollie (2019) -- Laurel & Hardy biopic -- S: Reilly, Coogan
Saw this a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.
Can't say I found the story "meh". What do you expect about a team of two estranged people on their last hurrah. It's a shame they didn't get to do their version of Robin Hood. At the end it said Stan kept writing Laurel and Hardy stuff until he died. I wonder if he completed that Robin Hood story... presuming, of course, that it wasn't just something done for this flick. If it was real and the story is available, what I'd like to see would be Reilly and Coogan reprise Laurel and Hardy to film it just as if it were a real Stan and Ollie film. I think they could pull it off. |

A & C don't come even close to the talent of L & H. The only thing they have in common is the fat/skinny thing. |

Re: Stan and Ollie (2019) -- Laurel & Hardy biopic -- S: Reilly, Coogan
In the movie Laurel sees a poster of a Abbott and Costello movie with a look of disdain since they probably had more success in movies with Abott and Costello being the inferior comedic duo.
