Jason Bateman (the “Horrible Bosses” films, TV’s “Arrested Development”) and Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams (“Spotlight,” “Dr. Strange”) team up in New Line Cinema’s action comedy “Game Night.” John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein are directing the film, marking their second film as co-directors, following “Vacation.”
Joining Bateman and McAdams in the cast are Billy Magnussen (“Bridge of Spies,” TV’s “American Crime Story”), Sharon Horgan (Amazon’s “Catastrophe”), Lamorne Morris (TV’s “New Girl”), Kylie Bunbury (TV’s “Pitch,” “Under the Dome”), Jesse Plemons (“Black Mass,” TV’s “Fargo”), Danny Huston (“Wonder Woman,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), with Michael C. Hall (TV’s “Dexter” and “Six Feet Under”) and Kyle Chandler (“Manchester by the Sea,” TV’s “Bloodline”).
Bateman and McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.
Daley and Goldstein are directing “Game Night” from an original screenplay by Mark Perez (“Accepted”). John Davis (“Joy”), John Fox (TV’s “The Blacklist”), Jason Bateman and Jim Garavente (“Bad Words”) are producing, with Marc S. Fischer serving as executive producer.
The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Barry Peterson (“Central Intelligence,” “We’re the Millers”), Oscar-nominated production designer Michael Corenblith (“How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Apollo 13”), editors Jamie Gross (“Vacation”), Gregory Plotkin (“Get Out”) and David Egan (“Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return”), and costume designer Debra McGuire (“Vacation,” “Ted”).
The film will be released worldwide beginning March 2, 2018.

A comedy version of The Game? I’m in!
Most Jason Bateman comedies are pretty good. The guy’s got a way with comedy.

After how terrible Vacation was I doubt this will be any better, I'll wait for the reviews before considering to see it.

What? From the Directors of the Vacation remake and the Writer of The Country Bears doesn't sound enticing to some people?

I saw one of the advanced screening of this tonight. It's funny, and basically what you'd expect given the trailers. Bateman is always Bateman, but he and McAdams are good together with a few particularly funny conversations, especially some of the full length versions of some of the bits you see in the trailer. I was afraid that this was going to be one of those movies where the best parts of the movie are in the trailer, but there's definitely more to it. The rest of the group of friends are also great and all of them have their moments, with some predictable gags that still pay off. Jesse Plemons in particular is hilariously creepy.
I recommend it.

Jesse Plemons is hilarious in this, the movie realizes it and leans in a tad too much but he's still great.

I think Jason Bateman is a really underrated actor. That said, some of the "comedies" I've seen him in have really disappointed me, to say the least. I'll still give this a shot, though, as I'm still a fan of his.

How is Lamorne Morris in this? I love him in New Girl.

Yeah, I was quite surprised at the high reviews thus far. Yeah, I love Bateman (on Kimmel tonight), but Office Christmas Party was terrible and some others, identity theft. Loved him in The Gift though...

That said, his comedies are still infinitely more enjoyable to watch than Will Ferrell’s.

He's funny. He's very much a side character and probably doesn't get as much screen time as you might hope, but he gets a few good lines that absolutely cracked me up. You see one of those scenes in the trailer where he's stuck in the room, but that entire scene has more to it that's very funny.
The other thing I loved from him in the movie is a particular line that would be a spoiler for a gag, so hiding it just in case:
Anyway, i'm glad the reviews are positive. It's really funny! For reals!

I think the two Horrible Bosses were some of the best comedies in a long ass time. Love them!
I want to see this with hopes it’ll match them.
