The Simpsons is produced by 20th Century FOX television. That and the movie division are now being controlled by Disney. Has nothing to do with FOX broadcasting. FOX TV will still air it.

They do have a massive presence in Disney's Animal Kingdom park, that's probably why

Avatar Land at DisneyWorld and 18 upcoming Avatar films means they have incentive to try to make people care again.

Man, you all are dead on about Bart looking so strange next to all of that. Well, that and Shape of the Water.

The TV station that airs it (Fox) is different than who produced it (20th Century Fox). Disney now owns the latter.

Ah okay. So I assume that stuff like The Simpsons and other shows produced by 20th Century Fox will stay where they're currently airing. At least for now. It kind of is hard keeping it all straight I guess. I would have thought the Fox network was part of the deal. I thought only the sports and news divisions were separate, didn't realize the broadcast network wasn't part of the deal.

Disney already owns ABC, so they aren’t allowed to own the Fox network. They do now own FX though.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

To clear up any confusion

Disney now owns 20th Century Fox movie and television studio, Fox’s 22 regional sports channels (that will soon be sold off), cable channels including FX and National Geographic, and Fox’s portfolio of international operations, including a fast-growing pay-TV service in India. The deal will also give Disney 60% ownership of Hulu.

The deal does not include Fox News, the Fox broadcast network, television stations, Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. These assets are now apart of a new company called FOX Corp. The newspapers, such as Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Times of London, and a portfolio of Australian properties that are owned by Rupert Murdoch are housed in a separate company.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

Disney really are going to have to alter the name slightly at some point to remove “Fox”. Just 21st Century Films instead of the old 20th Century name, Disney Searchlight, etc.

I wonder if this means all the 20th Century Fox catalog films will be more expensive going forward and never on cheap digital sale now like Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures movies.

More than likely, yes. If there are some older Fox movies out on blu that you want but haven't picked up, I wouldn't hesitate.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

How’s that going to affect the MGM titles distributed by Fox? It’s also going to be confusing if multiple Fox TV/cable channels are owned by different companies, some Disney and some not.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

I guess no one is exactly sure what’s going to happen in terms of distribution and how Disney will be rearranging their new assets as there has not been a merger as big as this one.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

I think the one is biggest trouble is Blue Sky Animation. I just don't see them focusing on a totally separate animation movie studio to compete with their own. In fact I see the Simpsons being pretty much left alone since they are so far away from being associated with the Disney brand and pretty much autonomous. I do wonder if it will be available on Disney+.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

I would expect Blue Sky to be shut down, along with lots of other redundant departments at Fox.

Could Blue Sky shop themselves to another studio? Of course Universal and Sony have their own animation departments already too.

What I think is funny is now Universal Studios will have to start writing checks out to Disney for two of their themed lands.

Which is sad because I really enjoy some of their animated movies. Rio and Peanuts in particular. I wonder what other departments are in trouble. You can never tell with Disney. If they aren't interested in something they won't hesitate to shut it down. Think video games, mainly Disney Infinity and Lucasarts. Both large money makers but since they weren't too interested they just shut it down. I think Blue Sky is the one though that would most interfere with the "Disney Brand". In other words its the one aspect of this merger that could really be seen as competition/redundant.

Uh..oh.. I didn't know they bought a controlling interested in Hulu too. I really wonder what that means. Iger really looks at Disney+ as the future of the company. Hulu is a huge competitor in that field. If I were Hulu I'd try to gain control back.

Hulu isn't competition to them and they aren't getting control back. They are going to use it for all their adult-oriented content they just bought from Fox among other things.

And they’re bringing back Lucasarts games in some form or other also.

Massive layoffs at FOX due to the merger. Up to 4,000 jobs could be cut.

That really sucks to hear, but it comes with the territory of any merger. It says FOX's film division is going to be hit really hard.

Re: Report: Disney to purchase part of 21st Century FOX

Fox posted this earlier today. It's confusing some people as to why many of these shows, including the Simpsons, will still be at Fox while being owned now by Disney but all has to do with distribution rights and season contracts.
