There is a story in the book about kids going to bury a pet. Seems like they are expanding and creeping that part up for the movie.
Then again, it could be a 2 minute flashback that just has visuals great for a trailer...

I'll reserve judgment...

I'm impressed that a Buttmunker thread from 2004 is on the front page here. Who knew it would suddenly become relevant 14 years later?

The guy is a good actor, IMO. He hasn't picked the best movies to be the lead in though. Hopefully this one is good. You should check out the old Showtime show Brotherhood.

They don’t come back the same. Watch the second trailer for #PetSematary, based on Stephen King's terrifying novel. In theatres April 5, 2019.

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, (#StephenKing) #PetSematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (#JohnLithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.

I read an article about the change and basically they said that they can get more emotion and more action out of an older child than a 3-year old. I'm okay with it.

I was on the fence ... I think I am now out. Didn’t even watch the trailer. If the reason you made the change is you “think you can get more emotion and action” ... no. No, you can’t.

Depends on how you set up the death.

Pet Sematary is probably King's scariest novel. I wouldn't be changing anything significant like that if I were the filmmakers...

Bullshit. They pussied out because people would throw a fit if you show a toddler killed on screen now days. Pretty weak if you ask me.

I'm out. This looks like the main purpose was to make it as generic as possible. God damn it!

Also, this might be the absolute worst trailer I've ever seen, spoiling every single major thing in the entire story. What the fuck?

It also tells me something about how little the makers understood why the book was so scary and effective. A toddler dying after wondering off, while the parents were distracted for just a moment vs. a pre-teem silly enough to follow a cat out into the street.

The word that came to my mind when I originally read the book was Gruesome. The fucking story was scary as fuck and gruesome. The original movie tried to capture the gruesome and succeeded to a degree, but failed to capture the degree of gruesome. I had hoped the remake would capture the degree of gruesome that the original had failed to capture, but in attempting to capture it they decided to change MAJOR plot points and characters in the story? They couldn't just take the story and amp it up, push the gruesome to the limits, they felt they had to change the well-established storyline like they have in so many of these remakes? Fucking assholes.

You think a 3-year old actor is as capable as an 8-year old actor? I sure don’t.

This went from day one in the theater to a possible rental. This is a huge letdown.

Everyone getting pissed off is fine with what Kubrick did with The Shining.

That just doesn't fly, because the story doesn't center on either of the children. This is just another case of unnecessary changes for the sake of change.

And it was incredibly stupid to show that twist in the trailer. They could have surprised theater audiences with it, for better or worse, but no....

I’ll bite.
The Shining changes initially didn’t bother me as much because I saw the movie before I read the book. After seeing it so many times now, I had to separate the two. Especially after that Simpson’s Treehouse Of Horror. It’s one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, but it’s sometimes hard to watch the Shining and not picture Homer.

Ive read Pet Sematary many times and I feel it’s one of King’s best. Like someone said, change for the sake of change is pointless.

Here's the article.

Spoilered a part of it here:

Spoiler:

For one, what readers can imagine in King’s book is harder to accept when presented literally onscreen. The resurrected child who returns with a voracious bloodlust is more physically intimidating in the shape of an 8-year-old girl than a 3-year-old boy.

“Much of how they shot the first [movie] was a doll,” Widmyer says. “It’s creepy and it’s effective. But we’ve now seen Child’s Play and we’ve seen the little kid trying to kill, and it’s effective when done right, but …” They felt it had been done already, and this was a chance to try something fresh.

I agree with this and don't think it changes much about the story itself. And there hasn't been a King adaptation that hasn't made major changes to the original story. Hell, The Mist had a completely different ending and King himself loves it. I don't see why this is any different.

^ The story is not about physical intimidation. Not at all. That's not what makes Gage scary and the whole thing so horrible gruesome.

Pet Semetary is a better book than The Shining. And Stanely Kubrick is most likely a better director than the makers of this film.

Re: Pet Sematary -- remake (2019, D: Kolsch & Widmyer) S: Lithgow, Clarke, Seimetz

I don't get the blowback from the change. I don't recall anyone in the GoT threads complaining that all the children were much older in the show than the books....cause we damn well can't show 13/14yo girls getting raped/killed/married...etc. People would have an issue with seeing a 3yo getting killed unless it was completely off-screen and only mentioned. I'm assuming they thought swapping to the older child was better than that option.
