Laura/X-23 (Logan spin-off) D: Mangold, S: Keen -- News, rumors, etc.

"We're just working on a script," Mangold says of a film that would center on Dafne Keen's Laura.

As Mangold looks to the future and a possible Laura movie, he touches on the success of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman this summer and what that means for female-fronted films.

"Patty's success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist," says Mangold. "The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, 'Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her?' And that's where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming."

As Fox gears up to release three X-Men films next year, the studio has signaled interest in exploring the Marvel mutants through different film genres. April's New Mutants is being positioned as a horror film, for example, and a Laura spinoff could potentially branch out from the western-noir-tinged Logan.

"Yes, there are other facets of that character and some others potentially to explore in their own way," says Parker, who spoke to THR while wrapping production on X-Men: Dark Phoenix earlier this month. "It may not be in the same exact tonality or with the same genre orientations as Logan, but I think part of what has been opened up in this universe to all of us now is, drawing on different genre traditions, there are new pathways to be opened for new characters that populate this universe."

One person who won't be involved in a spinoff is Jackman, who not only has hung up the claws but also rules out staying on as a producer. (He previously produced 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.)

"No, I wonít be a producer on a Laura sequel," he says. "But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal."

I think that sounds like a fun idea - they need to start generating more stories outside of time travelling around with the core X-Men. She was a fun character and would be a different take on a Wolverine story.

Iím interested but not sure if I want to see Laura as a young girl still in a sequel. I think Iíd prefer if they set the story further in the future and maybe had her as in her early twenties or maybe even later teens.

I'm sure there will be a progression from a child to an adult or however old she ended up being in the comic.

As long as that script is tweaked to perfection -- it should be fucking awesome. Oh, and rated R, too.

I'd prefer they keep the same actress. She was a super major factor to making that character work.

Agreed. And make it a cute latina actress to boot.

So far it seems like people want a Laura that it’s cool to jerk off to.

It might be interesting, but I think they should wait a few years for Dafne Keen to be older, especially if they keep with the tone of Logan and go for an R rated movie.

I'm down for more kick ass female driven movies but I think Hollywood is going to quickly find out how iconic Wonder Woman was as a brand which drove ticket sales vs a random comic book movie with a female lead.

Put me in the "she should be older" camp. I don't need a kid Wolverine movie.

Nah I just donít want a full movie of kid Laura/X-23. I think she works in Logan but she also had the title character and Professor X to work with in that film. She gave a good performance but she barely even spoke and frankly I donít have a lot of interest in seeing a feature length movie focused on her at that age.

Not really looking forward to a movie with a mute in the lead role. I'm looking at you as well Inhumans.

Sounds much better than watching Sophie Turner carry a film.

So, in this one will they be making a run to the Alaskan border being chased by corrupt Royal Canadian Mounted Police?

She's not mute.

And in Blackbolt's case, the show sucks. There's nothing wrong with a mute character but he wouldn't be a lead either. It's supposed to be an ensemble thing. It would never a be lead character role thing for Blackbolt, if done right.

Oh good, a Logan spin-off. I was just thinking I needed a new movie to put me into a clinical depression after the last one.

Give in to the existential dread.
