In theaters and VOD October 13th

Directed by: Alexandre O. Philippe

The screeching strings, the plunging knife, the slow zoom out from a lifeless eyeball: in 1960, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho changed film history forever with its taboo-shattering shower scene. With 78 camera set-ups and 52 edits over the course of 3 minutes, Psycho redefined screen violence, set the stage for decades of slasher films to come, and introduced a new element of danger to the moviegoing experience. Aided by a roster of filmmakers, critics, and fans—including Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Jamie Lee Curtis, Eli Roth, and Peter Bogdanovich—director Alexandre O. Philippe pulls back the curtain on the making and influence of this cinematic game changer, breaking it down frame by frame and unpacking Hitchcock’s dense web of allusions and double meanings. The result is an enthralling piece of cinematic detective work that’s nirvana for film buffs.

Too bad they couldn't get Brian De Palma.

Sounds cool - will be interested to see how the critique and discussion makes up a feature length film while making it interesting and entertaining.

It opens tomorrow at a small, local theater. I'm planning on seeing it Monday.

It is available On Demand right now if people can't catch it in the theatre.

I actually know the guy who directed this. I remember him telling me about it a couple years ago and thinking, I want to see that movie right now. It opens here next week and a local theater is showing Psycho along with it. Very excited to finally see it.

A couple of months ago TCM played pretty much all of Hitchcock’s stuff. Philippe was a guest through most of it and they talked a bit about this. I’ll definitely check it out at some point. One thing that bothered me was that during the discussions before the movies, Philippe was relatively quiet through most of them. He even said he wasn’t aware of a lot of the trivia Mankiewicz was dishing out. At any rate, I’m sure this doc will be pretty good.

Cool movie. I was worried at the beginning when they were recreating a scene from the movie. I hate when documentaries get lazy and do that. Thankfully, it's done very minimally.

They speak with Janet's body double that they used for a few shots. And I found out Scorsese used some of Hitchcock's storyboards for a sequence in Raging Bull. Good stuff. High recommendation.
