DC Cancels Hit Comic Book Series 'Border Town' After Abuse Claims

The publisher has not officially commented on the reasons for the title’s cancellation, but it coincides with the release of a statement by toy designer Cynthia Naugle in which she wrote about being “sexually, mentally, and emotionally abused” by an unnamed figure later identified on social media — and seemingly confirmed by Naugle via retweets — as Border Town writer and co-creator Eric M. Esquivel.

Border Town was the debut title for this year's relaunch of the DC Vertigo line, with the first issue being rushed back to press after selling out. The series had received much critical acclaim and had already appeared on a number of best-of-2018 lists from media outlets.

That aside, I have noticed there is an absence of mirth on this website at times.

Don't know the show or the folks involved, but I guess this fits here:

Woody Allen's "teen muse" recalls her 8-year affair with Allen and she doesn't necessarily regret it.

Yikes, especially considering he works on a show that stars minors and is for minors (and for those that didn't click through, he's not playing a teenager on the show either).

CBS board says Les Moonves will not receive $120 million severance
BY LEX HARIS
UPDATED ON: DECEMBER 17, 2018 / 6:10 PM / CBS NEWS

The board of directors for CBS Corp. said Monday it found grounds to terminate ousted CEO Leslie Moonves "for cause" and will not pay out a severance package worth $120 million. In a statement, the board said it made its decision following the completion of a monthslong investigation into allegations of harassment and assault against Moonves and cultural issues throughout CBS and CBS News.

"We have determined that there are grounds to terminate for cause, including his willful and material misfeasance, violation of Company policies and breach of his employment contract, as well as his willful failure to cooperate fully with the Company's investigation," the board said.

The board also said the investigation had concluded that "harassment and retaliation" are not pervasive at CBS, though it acknowledged past instances of "improper and unprofessional conduct." The CBS board has not said whether it would publicly release the results of the investigation.

The statement said past policies had not "reflected a high institutional priority on preventing harassment and retaliation," calling out a lack of resources devoted to human resources, training and diversity.

The findings are the result of an investigation by two law firms — Debevoise & Plimpton and Covington & Burling — which the board hired in August. The investigation comes 13 months after the firing of Charlie Rose, who was co-host of "CBS This Morning" before being ousted over reports of sexual misconduct.

Moonves was fired in September following allegations of sexual harassment and assault. He has denied any wrongdoing.

I love that Disney takes such a hard-line stand AND manages to plug that the show is wrapping up filming its third season ... all in one sentence.

”Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.”

Wow, that is quite the story.

I for one hope her behavior is checked -- and that the show doesn't get cancelled before the episode with the Samara Weaving sex scene in question gets aired.

Thank goodness the internet exists. Otherwise many of these females would never reach out that way to the public and we'll never know.

re: Sexual Harassment/Assault & Abuse in Hollywood -- Discussion

Back in the Summer or so, I got hooked reading the gossip "blinds" for awhile. And one about Bull kept coming up saying there was an actress that was going to be fired because Weatherly wanted her gone. Everyone assumed (people comment/guess who the blind is about) it was one of the 2 actresses that had been on the whole series. So, I guess there is something to them.

Spoilered in case you haven't watched Bull this season:
Spoiler:
After Cable was killed off in the season premier, I assumed it was her (along with the Blind guessers)

Weatherly comes across like a real douche here. I'm sure the cast of NCIS is glad he went to his own spin-off now.

You know, that is entirely possible. We have seen Men who seem to support MeToo with vigor later have to take their lumps for past shit. Al Franken comes to mind..
